At the time, I really wasn't prepared to make quitting a top priority. I mistakenly thought that a stop smoking aid would make it all completely painless. It doesn't work that way. Quitting isn't easy. So, after getting a craving while wearing the NicoDerm CQ Step 1 Nicotine Patches; I immediately lit up. Another thing, I never even bothered to read the directions before starting. If I had followed the directions on the box, the NicoDerm CQ Step 1 Nicotine Patches probably would have worked.
One word of advice, do not smoke at all once you start wearing the patch. This is really important. This is the biggest mistake I made, and one that will doom you to failure. The patch will give you enough Nicotine to curb your urge to smoke. If you would rather gradually taper down your smoking, don't use the patch. Instead, try the Nicotine gum or lozenges. With the patch, if you smoke more than 10 cigarettes a day, you'll need to start with the NicoDerm CQ Step 1. You can purchase the kit that has 21 patches, which is enough to last for 3 weeks. It's kind of expensive. You will spend about $60 to $70 for a 3 week supply. However, if you compare it to the cost of cigarettes, it's not that bad. Besides, it's temporary. You're going to be an ex-smoker, right? Each patch has 21 mg. of Nicotine to get you through the day. You place the transdermal patch on your skin, and it releases a steady amount of Nicotine throughout the day.
One disadvantage of the NicoDerm CQ Step 1 Nicotine Patches is irritation to the skin. If you don't alternate the area you place it on each day, it can leave a red itchy mark. Even if you do alternate the site, certain people with sensitive skin may have problems using this product. It will also leave goo on your arm that's kind of hard to scrub off. Overall, I believe that the NicoDerm CQ Step 1 Nicotine Patches are a good product.
