Nicole John

Let me be clear. I know no more about the Nicole John case than anyone else. I feel for Nicole John and her family. I am very curious about news accounts of Nicole John's death.

I live in Herald Towers, the building from which Nicole John fell.

Here are my questions.

Ledge

I have seen more than one news account with references to a ledge. If the apartment where the party was is anything like mine, there is no ledge. There is a window which would not be easy to open. It would be quite a maneuver to open the window and then stand on the window sill. So my question is, Where was this "ledge"? The only answer I can come up with is that a few apartments do have a sort of stone balcony? Was this one of these? I find no press accounts with an answer.

25th Floor

The 25th floor was the floor from which Nicole fell.

I go to the 25th floor at Herald Towers every day to exercise. There are treadmills and other exercise machines there, available to tenants.

From the 25th floor, if you go through the building office there, you can access a narrow outside aisle. I watched the fireworks on July 4 from this 25th floor vantage point. I do not know if this aisle goes all the way around the building, but the part I have seen is on the north side, above 34th Street.

Again I would wonder how anyone could fall from this area. But if the apartment was adjacent to this outside aisle a 22-story fall would not have been possible

I have not seen a news report which indicates whether the party spread to this outside area.

Ongoing Investigation

I see on TV that investigators are targeting the club Nicole John was at prior to the party. Having to do with IDs. I suppose it is germane, but it is not as germane, to me, as coming forth account of the precise event that led to the fall.

On Saturday morning, very early, we learned that a bunch of kids and a couple of officers were sitting down in the lobby at Herald Towers. We later found out that they had been at the party. My guess is that one of them might have an answer.

I am still mystified by the seemingly casual reference to a ledge on the 25th floor.

I hasten to add that I am not "reporting" this story. I have done my share of investigative reporting. But I just happen to live here.

Our lives were impacted. We felt for Nicole. That has not stopped.

Yet life has still gone on normally. Had Nicole not been as connected as she was, this story would have fallen through the cracks.

Since this one did not fall through the cracks, It is perhaps important to tie up any loose ends that may exist in the basic narrative.
