"Night of the Living Dead", which was directed and co written by George A Romero and who also did the cinematography and helped edit the film, told the story of seven people who try to survive the night as flesh eating creatures try to kill them all. This movie originally premiered on October 1, 1968 has become a cult classic and a favorite of mine.
Although it was not truly, the first zombie movie it certainly was the first I saw and it sparked a love of the genre that still exists. It's made me often wonder what life would be if Zombies really did take over and threaten civilization as we know it. How would my family survive? What types of bad people would use the Zombies to their own advantage? You know a terroristic warmonger would figure out a way to use zombies against humanity.
"Dawn of the Dead" was released in 1979, and this one told the story of a group of survivors who are stuck in a mall as the Zombies try to break in. Once they do break inside the mall its time for the humans to escape through the roof with the flash eating creatures close at their heels. I love this movie because a mall would be the pace to survive the plague of flesh eaters. The mall has everything one needs and nowadays there are those metal security things, which cover the doors, which would make fortification much easier.
"Day of the Dead", which was released in 1985, tells the tale of a group of survivors who take refuge in an underground bunker. Down in this bunker they experiment on the zombies in hopes of some day taming them not to eat brains. The humans want the Zombies to co exist with them so that civilization may flourish once more. The experiment is a big failure but the movie is awesome and just helped to make my addiction to the zombie genre even stronger.
Even the simplest people would not want to experiment on a monster and train them. For when you bring a monster into the living area, they will seek a way to get you, as did the zombies, which were brought into the lab and killed the scientists.
"Land of the Dead" (2005), "Diary of the Dead" (2009), and "Survival of the Dead" (2010) and all destined to be classics in the Zombie genre. The "Resident Evil" series, "28 Days Later", "I Am Legend" are all zombie classics. Not all zombies are dead humans as we all learned in "Pet Sematary". "Flight of the Living Dead" brings terror to the skies a zombie fulfills his destiny and creates a planeload of zombies' earth bound for destruction. These are just some of my favorite zombie movies, and I highly recommend them.
