Nightfall

Walton S. Tissot

I'd like to go to bed
At the closing of day
With a few thoughts in my head
As I lie low like lead
Or meek lamb in the hay
I'd like to go to bed
As sound as the long dead
Don't seek me where I lay
With a few thoughts in my head
Bring no water nor bread
Fourthwith to cause no fray
I'd like to go to bed
And all that is left unsaid
In my dreams I will play
With a few thoughts in my head
There is a path well tread
At the days end and gray
I'd like to go to bed
With a few thoughts in my head

I have always been a fan of the villanelle. One of the first poems I had published was one and I think they lend well to the macabre and political poem.

I adore this. Love the bounce and the alliteration throughout.
