There are two popular venues in Albany that cater to large concerts and sporting events. Pepsi Arena is on Pearl Street in Albany proper. Pepsi Arena plays host to such events as basketball, motocross and hockey to name a few. There is usually something going on over the weekend and the circus visits here as well.
At The Palace Theatre on Clinton Ave. in Albany, they feature big acts but they are better known for hosting lesser known performers. Classical works is the specialty of this house and you can enjoy the recent renovations in the restoration of this historical theater to its former glory.
Jillians, located at 59 N. Pearl Street is right down the street from the Palace Theater. This is the hot meeting spot for when sports events or concerts end. It is considered a bar/nightclub/billiard hall, and is part of a chain. You can find food and an arcade downstairs. Only 21 and over are admitted and the food is pretty good. They have a wide selection of liqueur and it is the type of place to meet friends after an event or after work
For those looking for a quieter time, across the street from Jillians is Pearl. Pearl is considered a youngster among the downtown clubs. It has a restaurant as well as a classy martini bar to let you indulge in your more sophisticated side. It is a bit more expensive, but you are certain not to run into any rowdy college crowds to impede on you evening.
A great pub you can check out is the Bayou Café located on Pearl Street. Here you can find lots of ways to let loose and just rock out. Bayou Café serves Cajun food and they have a big bar and lots of different bands you can rock your body to.
If you are serious about your beer, there is no better place for you to go and discover it at the Big House Brewing Co., located at 90 N. Pearl Street. From the moment you step inside you will think you have entered a time zone. It will remind you of the days gone past, in the era of Prohibition. The Big House Brewing Co. brews their own beer and has several floors where you can try a beer brewed locally and snack on some tasty food. It's a great place to go out and have a good time, but not conducive to a romantic evening.
