Atlantic Station
Located a few blocks from the edge of Georgia Tech's campus is the community of Atlantic Station. It prides itself on being a model for smart growth and sustainable development. Here people can live, work, and play all in the same place. It boasts numerous retail stores as well as a large movie theater. Some of the more popular stores include DSW shoes, Old Navy, American Eagle, Victoria Secret, Dillard's, and Gap. There is also a Publix Grocery Store located at Atlantic Station for those looking to cook their own dinner. For those looking to eat out there are numerous bar and grills as wells as a Cheesecake Factory, Doc Green's, and Moe's Southwest Grill. Unfortunately, Atlantic Station lacks Asian cuisine unless you buy some sushi from Publix. At any time day or night students can either take the free Marta Shuttle from the closest station or walk the three or four blocks to Atlantic Station.
Nightlife at Georgia Tech
Like most major colleges and universities Georgia Tech has numerous fraternities and Sororities. Practically every night there is a party, or mixer, or another Greek activity going on. It is highly recommended to go Greek due to the social and academic events they participate in. Often there are band parties and themed parties once or twice a semester per fraternity or sorority. If uninterested in Greek activities then many students enjoy going to the Tech Rec Center located in the Student Center. Here you can find bowling lanes, video games, pool tables, air hockey, and ping pong tables to play on. The Tech Rec Center does charge for pool and bowling but it is a very small fee.
Clubs and Bars
Atlanta is known for having some of the best night clubs and bars around the country. Some of the best bars include Fado Irish Pub and The Tavern at Phipps. These two are known as the best in Atlanta and even placed first in the Best Bars for 2006. Some of the best known nightclubs include Compound, Club 112, and Loca Luna. Unfortunately many of these clubs require you to be 21 or older, however some do allow 18 year old to enter. These places are a blast to go to with friends and to meet other singles. If you ever find yourself in Atlanta make sure to stop by.
Sports
As most people know Atlanta is home to many teams such as The Atlanta Falcons, Braves, Hawks, and Thrashers. Throughout the year games are hosted in the venues which are located a few blocks away from Georgia Tech. It is quite a walk, especially if coming from the opposite side of campus however Marta does make this much shorter. Tickets are fairly cheap depending upon where one sits. Also Georgia Tech students can support their own teams which often have night games throughout the semester.
