Nightlife in the Small Town of Mountain Home, Arkansas

Megan Shannon
Here in my wonderful small home town of Mountain Home, AR the night life can be pretty mellow but enjoyable nonetheless. Located by two large popular lakes, the summer nights are easily entertained by locals and tourists alike.

When I was a teenager our weekend nights in summer consisted of 'cruising' in town. We would start at the local Pizza Hut and turn around at the local 'Hardees.' This was a way for us to meet other people and just to entertain us. Some of us would park at businesses by the cruising strip and you could easily get people to stop this way as well.

I only enjoyed this up till about my junior year, but when we weren't cruising we were at the lake hanging out. Swimming in the dark and just having a good time. Over these past years 'cruising' is no longer allowed. While some still do it, there aren't half as many kids as there were years ago. They can no longer stop and hang out at a lot of these businesses by the strip either; they put a strict rule on many of those things.

Aside from cruising for the teenagers, there are many other options these days. We have the local movie theaters, bowling alleys, places like 'The Zone' that offer miniature golf, go-karts and arcade games, as well as the batting cages. These are good family fun and children will enjoy it every bit as much as yourself.

From the young adults to the old, there are of course some local bars and clubs to go to. One is the Atrium, located outside of town down by the lake and fairly roomy that has fighting matches, karaoke nights, ladies nights and more. This is a club/bar together offering an average sized dance floor but the place is big enough for a great party.

There is also the latest addition, Royal 66, where anyone is welcome no matter the age. It's a mixture for sure, but it's a nice environment, offering awesome contests and a huge dance floor for dancing and fun entertainment including pool tables and foosball. Another popular trait of this club is the live bands they have and the variety of music. Every age group fit in very well here.

There are two close bowling alleys; my favorite would be Driftwood Lanes. They are a big place with pool tables and arcade games and plenty of lanes for bowling. It's a very bright, fun and family atmosphere.

We have many local events happening during the summer weekends so you want to be sure and check what is happening during the time you will be here to see what great fun entertainment you can be sure to catch!

And of course, the lake! If you are ever here visiting or moving or whatever the reason, you must go to the lake. There are two and both are gorgeous and huge. You can see clearly through the water which is a very big attraction to tourists as well. There are many docks you can rent boats and jet skis from, buy fishing bait, whatever you decide to do that day. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and you won't enjoy a better time than being out on the lake on a beautiful summer day enjoying the clear warm water.
