Nightmare at Burger King

Lee
I started working for Burger King 4 years ago. I was promoted to assistant manager and I thought that it meant lots of power and glory, slacking off and easy work. I was wrong. One night I had probably the worst night at work in my life. It seemed like nothing could go right.

The shake machine blew up everywhere spewing shake mix and syrup all over the floor, walls and worst of all, me. Then to make matters worse, we had a school bus full of children pull up and there were only three of us there to try and get them out. After the screaming children left, we had lots of work to do. We started to clean the store up before close when the phone rang. I answered it to a lady screaming at me that her order was made wrong and she wanted a refund. I explained to her that I couldn't refund it for cash but that I could replace it the next time she came in. I took down her name and she said she would be in the next day. I started to sweep the lobby and this lady, the same one as on the phone, came ranting and raving into the building. She was swearing and throwing food all over the floor. I asked her to please calm down and I would try to resolve the situation. She then threw a bag at me and an unwrapped sandwich, getting mayonnaise and ketchup all over my shirt. "This is what you call a whopper? It looks like a freaking pigs chow, I want one made now and made like the picture."

I told her that a new one would be made as soon as the meat was cooked. She took offense to this and tried coming over the counter to hit me. I told her that I was going to have to call the police if she did not leave the premises. She didn't back off so I went and grabbed the phone. When I came around the corner to get back to where she was, she was sitting on the counter top humming. I asked her to leave once more and she refused. I then called the police and asked them to escort someone off of the premises. When they showed up she started screaming that it was all my fault, that the customer is always right and that she had the right to hit me if she wanted to. Whomever started the saying that 'the customer is always right' should walk a day in a fast food environment. Maybe if everyone could experience these types of experiences then the world just might be a little calmer.

That woman probably had a mental disability. Most people don't do stuff like that. I commend you on remaining calm. Also, the moment she threw the whopper at you it's basically assault. You should have called the police then. Your bosses could not have said anything about you protecting your individual rights. People need to stick up for themselves more often. I find that many people are victims of things because the victimizer gets away with it. Any way, it's a story worth reading.

Sometimes people are just plain out of it. I feel for you. Whatever got into that lady, God help her.
