Nighttime Beauty Tips to Keep Your Skin Looking Young

Bev Cohen
Our faces take a beating all day long between makeup, dry air, and pollutants! There are some basic nighttime beauty tips that will help refresh your skin while you sleep. Most of us are tired at night and the thought of performing more face rituals is not on the top of our listl. These beauty tips below will not take more than a few minutes and will be well worth the time!

Wash Your Face

Pretty basic, right? Washing your face is such an important step to healthy skin. Think about it. If you go to bed with makeup on, your face touches the pillow and grinds the makeup into your face more so than during the daytime. So even if you do nothing else, performing this one basic step each night before bed will benefit your skin. Use a gentle cleanser to remove every trace of concealer, blush, mascara, lipstick, etc. All of the outdoor pollutants will be removed also. Your pores will thank you.

Apply Eye Cream

Applying eye cream is a habit that should be started at a young age. Around the eyes the skin is very thin and with age gets even thinner. There are so many eye creams available that it's confusing knowing which one to use. Eye creams with Vitamins A, C, and E are good in that these are skin repair vitamins. Or if money is a concern, dab a bit of olive oil around your eyes at night. Olive oil penetrates deep into the skin and provides long-lasting moisture.

Lip Care

Our lips need care also. Many of the chemicals in lipsticks and lip glosses are not gentle on lips. Applying petroleum jelly to your lips at night will keep them moist and hydrated.

Sleep on Your Stomach

When you sleep on your side, the force of gravity is going to work against you. First, the side of your face touching the pillow is going to end up with more fine lines. And second, gravity pulls the skin on your face in such a way that it will be prone to wrinkle more over time. Try this test. Stand in front of a mirror and tilt your head to the side as though it were laying on a pillow. Look at how your skin falls! Not what you want to happen all night long! Try to train yourself to sleep on your back. In this position the skin on your face lays flat without making any extra wrinkles. It may take some trying to learn to sleep on your back, but it will be worth it.
