NIG**R PLEASE - It's the White House!

Exploring the Road to the 2008 US Presidential Elections

saba,ink
Today, I received an email with the photo displayed here. After reading and digesting the message emblazoned on the back of this biker's t-shirt, I could not help but wonder where the US of A will be on November 5, 2008. When I think about this honestly, it is a feeling that is hard to explain and quite perplexing. I'm confident however, that regardless of who wins, there will be backlash. After almost two years of campaigning, America ( in this election cycle) has been forced to examine gender, class and race like never before.

For many, the debates and resulting conversations have allowed us to examine the idea of being marginalized based on perceived group association, look at the victim as the one blamed for his/her circumstance while in other cases victims have been described as individuals who have not taken advantage of every opportunity to achieve, advance, or simply reach the heights of one's ambitions.

When you have two Presidential candidates like John McCain and Barack Obama who have both triumphed and are perceived by their supporters as people who could have fallen victim to their circumstance but have both chosen the path to Victory, how do we put things into context? How do we begin to analyze their accomplishments and/or failures?

In a global climate where so many people are being stripped of life as they have come to know it, the question is how will WE respond? For the first time as part of the global family, we are being forced to examine all those things that make us great as well as those things that make us small, while under scrutiny of the entire world.

Looking at the current state of affairs,I have often asked the question; "could this be a natural path to the affirmative action" we have disagreed on for so long? Now, when I speak of Affirmative Action I speak of it in terms of "leveling the playing field." Here, we have the unprecedented opportunity in our national and global history to put aside superficial differences because it is now about SURVIVAL . On the flipside, while in survival mode, people can also revert back to the most primal elements of our nature. So, America at this very critical and defining moment of our survival, how will we respond?

Will it be with actions that echoe the message of "Nig**r Please - It's The White House," or will we choose something else?!?

Well, I am just as anxious to see the results on that November 5th morning, when all the pundits chime in as they examine the final results of the Road To The White House 2008. In the end however, it will be history that judges - and determines how we "put lipstick on that pig."

Ride on People, Ride On!

Well, It's November 5, and I certainly feel a mixture of elation and uneasiness. I have not seen outright backlash though... Let's hope for the best.

I think most of us are ready to work together and although I am disheartened by those who have expressed racist sentiment, I am hopeful that given time and patience they will give up their fears and hostility and join the rest of us in making our nation and the world a better place.

Not sure if it means anything.. But I'm a caucasian man and was completely disgusted when I saw that photo on Reddit, as were many of the other commenters.. It just strikes me as weird that in 2008 there would be someone to come up with the idea for that shirt, a t-shirt printer that thought it was OK to print it, and at least one consumer who thought it was OK to not only purchase it, but wear it out in public..

I hope someone in a big truck runs him off the road. I can't remember where I heard it, or who originally said it (maybe it was George Carlin?, I dunno..), but 'stupidity should hurt'.

Yes, November 5th will be a very interesting day, indeed! I enjoyed your article, Saba. I was also emailed this photo and wasn't surprised one bit by the sentiment, which says a lot in and of itself.

the term came from the black community:
    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nigga+please
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigga_Please

Case of the pot calling the kettle black here!! No pun intended.

its just words people. last i remember, this was a free country.
once you get over the word then it won't hurt you.
you can call some people fat but it doesn't bother them because they are beyond that
while others take much offense. think about it, as soon as you get beyond it, then these
things won't be discussed anymore because they would have no merit.
Are you a Nigger? NO, none of us are. We are all Americans, we are all people,
short, fat, black, white, tall, skinny, yellow. Good Grief.
Here is the other problem, alot of people are voting along racial lines. Alot of whites have come a very long
way because they are voting for Obama and not for the white man while most Blacks are voting for the Black man.
that is not a reason to vote for. I saw a black man on TV that is getting death threats because
he is not voting for OBAMA. That is Racist.
Bottom line is get over the Word .... It is nothing unless you make it something.

Forgot to ask Monica who exactly are you referring to when you say they? Are you referring to white people? Obama is the biggest racist of the two of them, he hates Jews, hates Whites, and hates America. That being said Mccain is a dumbass as well. We are totally screwed.

Sorry Monica J, this guy was at least in a nuetral area because the EZ Pawn sign in the back will not be in a white neighborhood, meaning he was in either in a black or hispanic neighborhood. Deal with it people, nothing's changed because it is allowed to happen.
