Nike Tiger Woods Commercial: Earl Woods Ghost of the Past Give His Son Food for Thought

Alfonso Coley
The recent commercial showing Tiger Woods in his Nike golf gear - and the voiceover of his deceased father Earl Woods as a back drop to support the commercial is somewhat eerie, but in the world of advertising media, it was simply an ingenious idea that will boost Woods image. The Nike marketing idea to have Tiger Woods to appear in a black and white commercial ad, and not speaking a word, was a powerful statement on how his life is undergoing an almost religious transformation. Tiger Woods has held several press conferences concerning and speaking about his adulterous lifestyle, and it would appear that many people have begun to forgive him of his past transgressions.

The Nike commercial contains a very underlying subtle message, it grabs the viewers attention - and forces the watcher to become a part of Tiger Woods psyche. The Nike commercial may be one of the most controversial sports commercials ever to come along concerning a high profile athlete revealing part of his personal life for millions of viewers to critique.

The most moving and emotional part of this Nike commercial comes from the voiceover of his late father Earl Woods, it is a haunting video commercial that will possibly be one of Nike's most viewed and blogged about for some time to come during the golf season.

I like these kinds of articles: Those that make you think while not telling you what your opinion should be. I'm not as good at that as you seem to be. You are right, Nike did a good job swaying public opinion with Tiger looking so sad. I hadn't seen the commercial until I read your article (I don't get cable or satellite), but had I seen it before reading your article, I would have not listened to the Elder Woods' words. I would have just thought what a good actor Tiger is. But, because of your article, I really listened to Earl's words. Those words should go down in history. If everyone thought that way, before jumping to conclusions about what someone else thinks, we would have world peace! Thanks!
