Nims Island - Movie Review

It all begins with a father and daughter relationship on a secret island that no one seems to know about. The father is a scientist and treats the daughter like a research assistant. This PG movie is a wonderful example of how movies should be made for younger children. There are a lot of PG and G movies out there that are too violent for younger children. This one is adventurous, shows young girls that they can be the hero of the story, and that the other strong figure in the story is a female adventure novelist, enter Jodie Foster.

Although extraordinarily unrealistic it will get your younger kids excited as it has lots of action and slapstick humor. This one is not meant for adults and I'm glad it wasn't as so few movies today are aimed for kid viewing. Jodie Foster does a great job showing her lighter side as Alex Rover, adventure novelist. This person starts in the movie as a person afraid of her own shadow and living her life through her imaginative adventure stories. She pushes her boundaries throughout the movie to travel around the world to see Nim on their secret island. Gerard Butler shows a different side of his talents as a caring scientist father who also happens to play the character in Alex Rover's stories.

A great film for young people and a great film for families to watch together.
