Kansas City Missouri was named after the Kansas Indians that settled alongside the Missouri River in 1821. One of the most famous features of Kansas City is its' magnificent array of outdoor water fountains which has lead to the dubbing of Kansas City as the "City of Fountains".
Kansas City's notoriety for supporting a strong Jazz culture can be heard throughout the city. Albeit, visitors to Kansas City thrive on the historical sites but KC offers a vast variety of other attractions and activities for the young and old, for the sports enthusiasts, for those who love a fast-paced experience and/or for anyone who just wants to have a leisurely quiet experience.

One of the main attractions Kansas City is the known for is Worlds of Fun. At Worlds of Fun visitors are offered the chance to visit the entire world through fun and entertaining rides like gigantic frightening roller coasters, wet and wild log rides and even a calmer Camp Snoopy for younger children. You can experience fabulous musical shows and taste food from many countries.

If it's playing in the water that you and your family like then, Oceans of Fun is the place to go. With the many different types of water activities offered at Oceans of Fun, a family can stay entertained for an entire day if not more. Be sure to wear your sun screen as Kansas City is hot and sunny in the summer months.

The Kansas City Zoological Park is another must see site to see while visiting Kansas City. At this state of the art zoo visitors have the opportunity to see anything from a mixture of the Congolese jungle to the Australian outback. The zoo offers opportunities to view birds of prey, apes, elephants, and a multitude of big cats. This is another activity where wearing sun screen while visiting would be a good healthy idea.

Union Station is another popular attraction for visitor to Kansas City. Union Station is located in the heart of Kansas City where you can get a chance to ride the rail system through the city thanks to Amtrak. You can visit the Science City where you will learn about the rail system that houses the nations largest packaging and freight industry. Since its restoration in 1997, there are now live stage shows brimming with good quality, large movie screens, restaurants, shops, and a host of other exhibits and attractions.

For historians, the Harry S. Truman historical site is located in Independence, Missouri which is really quite near Kansas City. This site is the summer home of the 33rd president of the United States. While visiting this attraction, you will learn about the life and career of President Truman and tour his home.

The Negro League Baseball Museum is another great attraction and well worth the visit. The Museum is located in the 18th & Vine Historic District and it will captivate and excite the sports fanatic. They have a computer-generated information center that allows you to access information about the league, its players and a lot of other information regarding baseball.
There's also a 44 foot batting cage available for interactive play.

The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and Design is another highly respected visitor attraction which many man tourists flock to. The museum has an extraordinary assortment of international art with a design emphasis on technology. While visiting the Museum you can enjoy tasting the faire of a variety of quality culinary chefs and enjoy the intimate setting.

If you're looking for something to strike your fancy and get you to say ooh, the Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations may be just what you are looking for. The factory is the only one in the nation where you can witness the production of a Harley from start to finish.

If you're wondering why Kansas City is so famous for their fountains then taking the time to visit the J. C. Nichols Memorial Fountain is a god way to find out. Words can't describe this 40 foot water extravaganza. It is located on the Plaza district of Kansas City.

When planning to visit Kansas City the last thing you should be concerned with is transportation. You can make arrangements with all of the major car rental car companies if you want to get around leisurely on your own. For sightseers who arrive at the airport, transportation from the airport to many hotels around the city is available from a variety of different services.

If you have the desire to take a trip and do something educational as well as fun, Kansas City Missouri is a "travelers" ideal trip. It offers great food, great lodging, exciting nightlife, entertainment, education and fun for the entire family. Kansas City Missouri should be on your must see list.

    Good article! I'd like to add the Nelson-Atkins Art Gallery to the hypothetical sight-seeing tour. It really is one of the best art galleries in the country - remarkable for a City the size of K.C. Most larger cities in the nation have nothing that rivals it.
