Nintendo to Bring the 3DS in 2011

Portable 3D Gaming Minus the Annoying Glasses

A recent report by me on Associated Content mentioned how Nintendo DSI uses a camera to create 3D images without you having to wear the glasses. This was considered breaking news a little over a week ago. It appeared that Nintendo was working on something new for the DSI. Well it appears that we were all fooled because Nintendo has just made some amazing news. It appears the company just announced that they plan to release a all-new 3D capable portable machine next year.

Not much is known currently on what this machine will look like and how it will operate. I feel like it will be very similar to what was shown to you last week in the above mentioned article that I wrote:

"Many people can not wear 3D glasses because they cause them severe dizziness. Nintendo understands this and wanted to offer people another way to experience this technology. Face tracking takes place with the DSI camera. A demo game has been created that is very basic in concept and idea. Every time you move your face or tilt the Nintendo DSI, you will be able to discover hidden 3D shapes that are within a scene. It feels as if you are looking through a glass window at something in front of you. Quite a breathtaking if I might say so myself.

The entire time you are looking for shapes allows the DSI to track the different directions that your eyes are moving in. That information is then transferred back to the DSI so that it correlate your eye position with the angle of the DSI screens. The game will then understand what direction you are looking in and thus create the illusion of 3D. You almost feel like you are involved in a cool magic eye image trick. This concept is clever and allows Nintendo to create 3D worlds in their video games." (Source 1)

This "new" hardware might actually just be the enhancement to the Nintento DS and DSI systems that are currently out. In fact, the company is planning to call their 3D machine the 3DS, the supposed code-name for the successor to both the DS and DSI. It will be interesting to see if the machine actually looks much different than these other two devices.

Nintendo has been looking for the next big thing to bring to the market since the Wii. Many industry experts feel that the Wii is going to lose popularity drastically over the next couple of months. The 3DS might offer the company the platform to continue making games and not fall back into the negative spotlight that they were in just few years ago. Stay tuned here for all the latest news.
