There is an older Nintendo DS out there, but this one is much lighter and brighter. It is a two-screen system. The Nintendo DS Lite is a great game system for kids. It has a calendar, and it's pretty neat. It's portable, and you can buy the Gameboy Advance games for them as well. There is a slot in the bottom for the Gameboy Advance games. The slot right on top is for the Nintendo DS games. The battery in the DS, when charged, lasts for up to ten hours, which is great.
The biggest pro about this Nintendo DS is that it is light, low-priced and has two screens, and its portable. It's great for taking it with you to the doctor's office when you're waiting for sometimes an hour. It is also great for long trips. For kids, it's great to take with them to the babysitter's or grandparents' house. The games themselves cost about $10-$40. Sometimes you can get them even cheaper if you stop at a used game shop.
My children love the games. If two people have the DS and they scribble or text something in you can actually send it to the other DS player its so cool. They have adult games for the DS too. The Nintendo DS is a really nice game system for ages 4 and up. They have some good games for kids like Disney Princess, Mario Brothers, Cooking Mama, Kung Fu Panda, and much much more. I see everyone owning one. The Nintendo DS and the PSP are very popular handheld game systems.
One thing that is really great about this Nintendo DS game system is that kids with speech problems or confidence issues improve with this game. Some of the games are for toddlers which is great to teach them colors, words, and numbers. It helps them alot. Some kids have a hard time with beating the games. Some kids do not know how to play the game until the practice so much that they figure it out. It is good to teach kids about patience too. My 5 year old does not know how to play some of the games but the more she practices its gets easier for her.
The cons of this Nintendo DS Lite is that it's so popular, and sometimes you cannot get the color you want. Another con is that the graphics of the DS games are weaker than the PSP. I really think the PSP is a lot more real than the DS. When you buy the Nintendo DS Lite it does not come with a case so you have to purchase this so it does not get scratched. It can be addictive wanting to play all day or until you beat the game. There are a lot of games you can buy for toddlers, and older children. One con I have is that my children have is that they beat the game and then get bored they want more games. It can be expensive.
