The flagship of Nintendo Wii is the Wii Fit. It brings the gym, the sports and yoga space to your living room. The game is played with a motion sensitive 'Balance Board'. Wii Fit has four categories: muscle exercises, yoga, aerobics and balance exercises. The more you use it, the more exercises you get and the more difficult it gets.
Anyway, I bought a Wii Fit. Why? Because of my laziness to take the bike for a ride on a Saturday afternoon. Or to to run around the block after work on weekdays. So the Wii Fit was the solution. It's your own private gym in the house. You can even use it while wearing pajamas so to speak.
About three months ago, I connected the console to the television for the first time. When you start you're automatically "qualified". The white board determines whether your balance is good and ... it weighs you. Better still, your BMI is calculated during the "Body Test." I know I'm a suit too heavy, but the word 'overweight', is one I still don't prefer to be seen on my TV screen. But the Wii tells me that he wants to help me. He asks me how many pounds I would like to lose. Fifteen, I tell him. And see: he promises to help me.
So I three months ago I got started frantically. Full of passion, and with the same courage. I stepped like crazy and made imaginary hula hoop movements, following my Wii-man on the screen walking around an island.
The games you play seem limited. It's not more than walking, steps and a few abdominal muscle exercises on the floor. But if you use the board a lot, you're rewarded by occasionally getting an extra game as a gift. In total there are 15 yoga exercises, 9 balance games, 14 muscle and 9 aerobics exercises. The finest in the latter is perhaps the 'Free Step'. Free stepping allows you to switch to another tv channel. The board keeps track of how many moves you've made.
A week on the Wii Fit yielded no result. A week boasting like a pig, but no an ounce lighter. So the following week I didn't really use my Balance Board, also because you can't use it for a quick minute jog. You have to log on, choose an activity choose, switch to another game, do a body test ... Actually, it's easier to pick up your running shoes and run around the block.
Conclusion: The Wii Fit isn't a miracle product that will make you loose weight easily. Especially if you don't change your eating habits.
