Nintendo Wii Rocks

Fun for the Whole Family

Recently my husband and I had discussed getting a video game system. I was quite reluctant; my peeve about video games is that I feel people have more productive things to be doing with their time. The winters here are hard, it's cold, snowy, icy, and everyone is always sick. So I wanted something which the kids could do inside, something that was better than just staring at the tube.

I wanted to get them something that they could move around with and be active, most video game systems have dance games and games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band. However, our final decision was to go with the Nintendo Wii. I was not entirely happy about getting video games for my family, but maybe a video game system wouldn't be that bad after all.

We chose Nintendo Wii because it looked like it would be good for the whole family, even the small children. When we purchased it we bought the Wii sports console, an extra controller, the Wii games package, and Guitar Hero World Tour.

I was worried about my smaller children who are four and six not being able to work the remotes. Now I realize I had nothing to worry about, the controllers (my daughter calls them we-motes.) are easy to work and the games are all easy to navigate.

I was pleasently surprised to see that my children could play almost every game that came with the Wii Sports. They love the golfing, bowling and boxing.

Also the Guitar Hero World Tour, which is my husband's favorite, is something they can play. If you put the settings on beginner they can play all only by strumming and do not have to use the other hand. Guitar Hero World Tour is a band game, so we purchased an extra guitar and a microphone. Now my family is rocking out together and building an interest in music as well.

Personally my interest in the Wii is mainly aimed at the Wii Fit package. I have not purchased it yet, but will be soon. I plan to challenge myself and see if the Wii Fit can really get you fit!

How incredible is it that you can have a game system which meets so many needs. My children are happy with the simpler games, and even the more complex ones like Guitar Hero. My husband is happy with the Wii and the Guitar Hero game and I get to play my Karaoke games and sing along with the Guitar Hero. Hopefully when I get the Wii Fit, it will also meet my needs.

Apparently, getting a video game system was not as bad as I thought it would be. I am impressed with the Nintendo Wii, and just as impressed with my family togetherness while playing it. I would definitely recommend the Nintendo Wii for good family entertainment.

I agree- the Wii rocks! The problem with Wii Fit is that you have to actually use it... :)
