Nintendo Wii Vs. DS

Which Should You Choose?

The Nintendo Wii is defiantly changing the way games are played at home. The way the controls stack up to the old joy sticks from the past is incredible. The graphics are much improved over the old Game Cube and the fun factor has definitely gone up! The console is also more family friendly for a number of reasons. First off, the price of $250 is almost $100 less than you can find an XBox for, the games are more family friendly and the fact that this console can at least get you off the couch for a while during game play is another thumbs up for me.

An interesting question has come up though. Would you rather have a Wii, or a DS? Now, I played the original Nintendo NES and Game Boy. It was great to have Nintendo wherever I went, but lets face it. Nothing beats a console, not even the famed PSP can hold a candle to the raw power of the PS3, and the DS is no different.

Don't get me wrong, the DS is light years ahead of the old Game Boy, but it lacks in many obvious ways. The screen size is small of course, the dual screen does not always makes sense and is actually a bit annoying to me. The color screen is nice, but the graphics are that of the old Game Cube. Now, again, this is awesome for a hand held device, but why in the world would you chose the DS over the Wii? Make the argument that you are on the road a lot, no room for a TV in your place, fine, but if anyone in their right mind had the choice, they would go with the console every time!

The controls of the DS are very basic and straight forward, much like the old Game Boy lineup, but the amount of games that can be played will soon be dwarfed by the Wii once the full weight of Nintendo gets moving behind its new console starting in the New Year. I will give them that the Nintendo Pets game is quite fun and well suited for a hand held. You can take your virtual pet wherever you go, and why wouldn't you want to? Remember the Furbies? If you left it alone for a period of time it would get cranky!

The DS, having been out a while will defiantly be an easier buy this Christmas Season with most Wii's already being sold out everywhere other than Ebay. It's all a matter of what the kids would want and be best served by having as the price jump to the full featured console is only around $50.

All of this said however, and I feel I made some fair comparisons for each system, the Wii is the way to go. For the meer fact of horsepower, game library, and the fact that you can get all of your old classic Nintendo games downloaded to the Wii is just another reason to go with the console. The DS on the other hand is perfect for those of you on the go. College students will love it if they have a lot of time to kill in between classes, and overall it is much less expensive to own a DS as opposed to a PSP.

But, this is just my opinion. I like better graphics, big screens, killer sound systems and the ability to play on line. You can defiantly choose what works best for you and can rest assured that it will be a great experience. How can it not be, its Nintendo!

I still think it's funny that when the Wii first came out people were accidentally throwing it across the room and into their televisions. :)
