Nintendo's Wii Has Some Issues!

Robbie Tittle
CNN reports the Nintendo game unit WII is causing some concerns among its users. Apparently the hand held remote control straps that are secured to the Wii game machines are become airborne and are breaking windows, TVs and causing physical harm to some!

Wii Game players hold the Wii remote while imitating the motions of whatever game they are playing. The Wii straps can become airborne from Wii game players hands as they are swinging the controllers in rhythm to the game resulting in damage physically and to personal property.

The creators of the new Wii video game units are looking into the stir their Wii game units are causing. The Wii maker's stated they did not think the units would create such problems and they want to correspond with the public on how to properly and effectively use the new entertaining Wii remote controls.

A report from Associated Press stated "Nintendo has shipped about 400,000 Wii machines in Japan and more than 600,000 in North America." That's a tremendous amount of machines being sent out with problems from the Wii controller strap. Associated press quoted Nintendo Co. President Satoru Iwata as saying "Some people are getting a lot more excited then we'd expected."

Some other complaints on the new Nintendo Wii game system are the Wii remote control requires alkaline batteries. The batteries seem to run low fairly quickly and if the new batteries are placed in the Wii remote to fast it can cause static and cracking sounds. Other Wireless devices can also cause interference with the Wii remote and if you do not sync all the remote controllers quickly enough they may not become in sync with each other preventing game use.

If the buttons become sticky then you are suppose to clean them properly. If the Wii remote still does not work, Nintendo stated "Our experience shows that this type of problem is usually caused by physical damage and not covered under Nintendo's warranty." That's really a bummer deal for gamers! So it pays to be nice to the controller, but at the same time the controllers should be built strong enough to handle the required fast moving actions.

Nintendo's web site has plenty of detailed answers for troubleshooting the Wii unit and the remote controllers. IF the troubleshooting does not work then the controllers need to be replaced. It all sounds very complicated and it appears there are many problems with the Wii controllers.

I have seen the new Wii commercials. Is this the way Nintendo is trying to send out the message about how to properly use the Wii game system and controllers? In the commercial, two men go into a household and show people how to play the games and then leave. But how can a 30 second commercial teach anyone anything?

It appears people are getting so involved with the game, they are not thinking about the possibilities of the controller strap becoming airborne or physically smashing into fixtures around them.

The Wii strap controller caused physical harm to several individuals. One woman approached her boyfriend while he was playing and got slapped with the Wii controller in her boyfriends hand, leaving her with a badly swollen eye; Another gal was playing the Wii bowling game and the systems controller became airborne, smacking her in the forehead leaving a hefty bruise; A young man playing the bowling Wii game, swung his hand up smashing into a glass light fixture causing numerous cuts and smashed glass; A young girl playing the Wii tennis, dislocated her knee; A Wii controller slid from a young mans sweaty hand and smashed right through the window.

Nintendo is only considering recalls and changes to the Wii game unit straps at this point. Right now they are offering to replace the wrist straps for the Wii remote with new ones. The new shipments of Nintendo's Wii that began in December 2006 will have the newer strap. I must say that I can picture the Wii remote flying somewhere and landing upside someone's head. Unfortunately, most businesses do not think about the harm that may be caused until after the fact. Great article.
