First, a little background for those who may not be familiar with the Nissan Leaf. As AutoBlog states, The Leaf is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. The vehicle boosts a range of approximately 100 miles and can be recharged in 30 minutes to 8 hours, dependent upon the charging method used. The Leaf is a spacious hatchback with ample seating for five and fits right into the upper end of the compact car class. To recharge the Leaf, or any electric vehicle for that matter, you simply plug in the charging cord, wait until the vehicle is full and then head off down the road. The cost to refuel most electric vehicles comes in around $3. With a 100-mile range and a $3 cost per charge, the Leaf is one of the most frugal vehicles out there. With a simple battery and electric motor setup, the Nissan Leaf should prove to be relatively reliable and less costly to maintain than a typical gasoline-powered vehicle.
Alright, with the background out of the way and eager readers wanting to learn more about buying the Leaf, we'll turn back to discussing price. As was mentioned before, the Leaf costs slightly over $25,000 in the U.S. The federal government graciously threw in a $7,500 incentive for the purchase of any electric vehicle, which certainly helps make electric vehicles less costly and more appealing to U.S. car buyers. But, as AutoBlogGreen reports, several Nissan dealers are ready to offer substantial discount on the Leaf electric vehicle. The price wars between Nissan dealers are well underway now and some of the offers available for the Nissan Leaf are sure to surprise you. First, a dealer decided to offer $500 off of the Leaf's MSRP. This was immediately followed by a dealer that decided to double the discount by offering $1,000 off of the Leaf. Then, a lone dealer responded by claiming that they would beat any deal out there. Now, the biggest deal of all, a San Francisco dealer committed to 5% off of the Leaf's MSRP. This discount amounts to almost $1,700 off of the $25,000 price tag.
Now, it's certainly unusual to see deals on a brand new vehicle that has gained a lot of attention, but the Leaf's an unusual car that uses electricity, and not gasoline, to move on down the road. Interested in buying a Leaf? The wait list is long, but you can pre-order yours by going to Nissan's website.
