Japanese car manufacturer Nissan has big plans for India. As the company gets ready to present its first offering early next year, it also has plans to launch 4-5 other models over the next five years.

Talking to media about it, Nissan Motor's Managing Director and CEO Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama said that "our first car Micra is scheduled for launch by summer of 2010. We will launch 4-5 more models for the Indian market in the next five years."

Nissan has developed manufacturing facility near Chennai at an investment of Rs 4,500 crore. Nissan will enter India with its French partner Renault. The plant has a capacity to manufacture 2 lakh units for Nissan and another 2 lakh units for Renault. However, Renault seems to be in no hurry to push its models in India today and has postponed its plans for launch cars from the facility.

Mr Tokuyama has stated that their first car will be the Micra hatchback. Micra hatch is known as March in Japan. A Micra sedan is also being for planed for Indian market and is expected to be launched by the year 2011. Micra will be available in petrol and diesel variants.

He however failed to elaborate on the other models slated for India. Just like the Hyundai, Nissan has plans to make India the manufacturing and export hub for its global market. The grapewine going around in Indian car industry, is that Nissan plans to bring in some models of its luxury cars arm Infiniti to the domestic market.
