NJ Housewife Teresa Giudice Gets Punched like Snooki

Reality TV show filming locations and sets are not safe havens free from violence. Teresa Giudice, star of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey," shopaholic, stage mom and cookbook author, was punched in the face in a bar, according to RadarOnline. The loud and abrasive mom of three was partying it up with the cast from the Bravo show in the Dominican Republic when she was punched in the face, much like Snooki on "The Jersey Shore" was. A brawl ensued, arrests were made and the footage will not be included on the next season of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey."

Teresa Giudice and the Champagne Bottle

According to the report, the housewife was partying and opening champagne when the bubbly sprayed another woman, not part of the show's cast. Then a man punched Teresa in the face. A big fight broke out, people got hurt and some were arrested.

Violence Against Women (and Men) on Reality TV

Snooki on "The Jersey Shore"

This is not the first time a reality TV star has been punched in the face in a public place while the cameras were filming. In an episode of "The Jersey Shore," Snooki was also punched in the face by a guy in a bar. MTV did air the scene, but the screen went entirely black for the moments surrounding the punch. This made the situation seem as serious at it really was without exploiting it, which was a surprisingly responsible and ethical move for a show not known for its high standards.

Stephen and Irene on "The Real World"

There was a time, in the early days of unscripted TV, when violence against another cast member had consequences. There used to be a zero tolerance policy on "The Real World" which later evolved to a "let's let the cast decide," as was the case with Stephen after he slapped Irene across the face on "The Real World: Seattle" in 1998. Irene was in the car leaving, and had she stayed the rooomies may not have been so willing to let her stay.

Flash Forward to 2010/2011: Sammi and Ronnie on "The Jersey Shore" Season 3

The entire relationship between Sammi and Ronnie in the most recent season of "The Jersey Shore" (Season 3) is a tragedy waiting to be turned into its own TV movie. They both put their hands on each other in anger, Sammi punching Ronnnie, and Ronnie physically holding Sammi back with his massive boulder body. Ronnie also tried tipping the bed toward a sliding glass door while Sammi was standing on it. Neither of them should have been allowed to stay in the house or on the show due to their violent behaviors.
