Njection.com Lists Speed Traps

Wow...what a concept! This site is an online tool to share locations of speed traps throughout the World. The information is gathered by individuals that post their experiences with speed traps in their area. Future revisions of the site will allow for uploading to mobile GPS devices and GPS Enabled Phones. The Speed Trap section is "a mashup (Web application hybrid) that combines Microsoft Live Maps and the ability to pinpoint and review speed traps located anywhere on the planet." (www.njection.com/speedtrap) The Speed Traps link, goes to a map which loads (Portland, Oregon) where you can zoom in and out or select your specific location. The inputs/submissions are validated and approved by an administrator, unless you are a member. Very basic information is required for registration (name, email and timezone) at which time you are then emailed a password to utilize on the site.

In addition to Speed Traps, the site has links for Blogs, Forums, Calendar, Photos, Downloads and Links (see screenshots from www.njection.com). One of the screenshots shows the user data in the profile. There is the ability to put a web address, blog, gallery, and RSS feeds in your profile. Please refer to the specific advertising rules (http://njection.com/content/AdvertisingRules.aspx) before including any links in your profile.

This site will prove useful for those of us that have been caught in a speed trap. When I was in college, I commuted about 30 minutes from a suburb of Providence Rhode Island. On one particular day I was late for an exam and was speeding on Route 95, although I knew there was a trap. The trap was set such that you would pass one state police car, which was hidden off the road. This car would clock you on the radar and radio to the other police car. That other car was on another branch of the highway and would come out to pull over the speeding vehicle. So on this particular day, I sped by the first police car (even though I had been by there many days prior and knew there was a good chance it would be there). Of course, about 300 feet down the highway, I see the other vehicle pull out and put on the lights and pull me over. I was very fortunate, as I had not had a speeding ticket prior to that and was let go with a mail in ticket.

There are many locations in Rhode Island with speed traps like this, as well as locations where one Police Car will hide, clock you with radar, and then pull you over. With the rural winding country roads, there are a lot of hiding places. This site will assist greatly in travel, and hopefully will reduce the number of tickets that the police write!

Kat, I love your comment about speed bumps vs. speed traps...then again, only a speed trap tends to get such a rise out of people!! (seeing yellow...seeing red!)

Very interesting topic. I lived close to a town that was referred to as a speed trap. Not just part of the town, the entire town. Very small town LOL It was literally located on two sides of a four lane highway and only took up about 1 mile.

I will have to take a look at Njection; I know there a few speed traps nearby where I live, but I wonder how many more there are locally that I DON'T know about!
