Njection.com thinks they have a solution to this. Njection uses Microsoft live maps, and pinpoints speed traps located anywhere on the planet. They plan on making future versions of this program available on GPS devices and GPS enabled phones. Maybe I just travel through smaller areas, but none of the speed traps I know of were listed on Njection.com. I typed in a fewer big cities and it clearly showed red dots for where the speed traps are, you can then zoom in and see what kind of speed trap it is, such as red light camera, or it tells you what to look for, such as a van sitting on the side of the road.
When I got my first ticket it was because of a speed trap. There is a road where the majority of the traffic travels must faster then the posted speed. The day I got my ticket the police officer was sitting behind a tree using radar on every car that went by. I was actually curious how many tickets he must have given out that day. I thought it was very unfair that not only did I get my first ticket ever, but I had to get it unfairly. I don't think hiding behind a tree is a fair way of giving out tickets, and hiding to radar the cars going by is actually illegal in some states.
Another speed trap that I drive through almost daily is on a main highway as you start to enter a town. The speed quickly drops from 55 mph to 40 mph, then it quickly drops again to 35 mph. I know everyone might not consider this a speed trap, but I think it is. I think The first sign with the posted MPH should move you down to the speed that they want you to go. When you slow down to 40 you think you have slowed down enough, and if you are not used to driving in this area or your not paying attention you wont notice to slow down again to 35.
I feel that speed traps are unfairly used. I don't think the police are lacking things to do. I think there are plenty of people out there doing things a lot more wrong then some of these speed traps. I understand the safety in going the speed limit, but these speed traps set up unfair situations. Rather then trying to "trick" people into doing something wrong, they should be giving tickets to the people obviously doing something wrong on there own.
