NO. 10 LSU Gymnastics Team Heads to Florida for SEC Championships

The LSU Gymnastics team posted a nice score last week in their last regular meet of the season on the road. The Tigers traveled to in-state rival Centenary in Shreveport, LA and posted a 196.425, the highest score of the season on the road.

The Tigers also moved up one place in the rankings to the No. 10 position after improving their RQS (Regional Qualifying Score) with the 196.425 score at Centenary. The Tigers won the meet with Centenary, who turned in a final score of 187.700.

The Tigers will move on to the SEC Championships which will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Jacksonville, FL. The LSU Tigers are one of seven teams competing for the SEC Championships, of which all seven teams are ranked in the Top 20.

As a team LSU ranks No. 6 on the balance beam, No. 8 on the uneven bars, No. 9 on the vault and No. 14 on the floor exercise.

The Tigers have three competitors ranking individually. Susan Jackson, the No. 2 gymnast in the nation overall, ranks No. 1 on the vault, No. 6 on uneven bars, No. 13 on the balance beam and No. 12 on the floor exercise.

Summer Hubbard ranks No. 15 on the uneven bars and Samantha Engle owns the No. 16 spot on the balance beam. Engle has won three straight beam title events recently.

The SEC Championships will be an exciting match up of top-notch talent with all of the teams in the top 20 ranking. There will be more than just a couple of teams to watch out far, as anything can happen such as a slip on the beam that can cost a team crucial points with having to count a fall.

Alabama holds the No. 1 spot in rankings, followed by Florida at No. 4 and Georgia at No. 5. Arkansas sits in the No. 8 position and LSU rounds out the top 10.

Here are the top 25 teams in collegiate gymnastics along with their Regional Qualifing Scores (RQS) as released by GymInfo earlier this week:
