Ok, raise your hands - how many of you dread going to the store to buy expensive Hawaiian Tropic SPF? Yeah, me too. A few years ago when I was browsing the Walmart sunscreen kiosk, I discovered a sunscreen named No Ad.
No Ad is a product manufactured by Solar Cosmetic Labs in Florida. The sun lotions of No-Ad come in a wide variety of Sun Protection Factors, also known as SPFs. The one big difference, and reason you can get them a lot cheaper than name brand products, is that No Ad products do not advertise. In other words, you won't see No Ad SPF on TV commercials or in magazine ads.
There are 7 No Ad sun protection lotions available in a range sizes to fit your needs. The 5 typical lotions you'll find on the shelves are 16oz bottles, 8oz bottles, and 3oz tubes of SPF 4, 8, 15, 30, and 45! There are also two special kinds for children and another type for those with sensitive skin. All No Ad sunscreen products are waterproof and provide both UVA and UVB protection.
Unlike Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen bottles that are colorful and "tropical" in a sense, No Ad tubes and bottles are plain. The tubes and bottles are in one color each, depending on the SPF. For example, the SPF 4 bottle is all brown, and the SPF 8 bottle is all orange. There's no palm tree decoration and such on the bottles.
The smell of No Ad is a little bland, at least to me anyways. Hawaiian Tropic, on the other hand, has a much more pleasant coconut "beachy" smell to it. It's a smell you don't mind wearing on your skin all day around a group of people.
Furthermore, No Ad can be watery to apply, especially if the bottle or tube has been sitting in the warm sun for a while. Hawaiian tropic lotion is more smooth and creamy, making rubbing it in easy. Though No Ad says it is waterproof, I find that swimming and sweating before the lotion has dried can wash the lotion right off. Hawaiian Tropic does not seem to wash off as easily from sweat and swimming.
Hawaiian Tropic, also available in sizes and SPF strengths comparable to No Ad, says that their sunscreen has an "exclusive time-released Vitamin A, C, and E Complex. This complex is microencapsulated and time released over 12 hours to maintain vitamin potency and to help nourish and moisturize your skin."
Both Hawaiian Tropic and No Ad can be found at large retailers such as Kmart and Walmart. For under $6, you can buy a large bottle of No Ad OR you can spend $10 for a small 8oz bottle of Hawaiian Tropic. You decide how you want to spend your dollars. If it's sun protection you want, you CAN get that from No Ad at a much lesser cost.

I'm trying to purchase NO-AD Tanning lotion # spf 4. I've been using it for Yrs.- I've tried calling the No. on the bottle in Fl. And was told that The name or No. doesn't exist. I can't seem to find a store in Mass.that carries it. Could you please help?
I've tried both and I have to say Hawaiin Tropic formula has become very runny as of last year. I tried Coppertone and it was so bad that when I put some on my arm in the time it took me to turn and set the bottle the runny sunscreen had ran off my arm and stained my shorts. In Canada NO-AD is not on any store shelves that I can see. I wish I could get some. I found it quite thick compared to the other brands. For swimming I found it stayed on a lot better.
I have used both products, and for what I can say its that hawaiian it´s ok, but if you are looking to get some colour in your skin, I would defenetly go for NO -AD, since I once knew it from my trip to Cancun (MEX), I can not go other way, lets just put it like this, to do so I: put some sunscreen protection(30 or more) before my skin get in contact with the sun, after that, i put the NO-AD dark tanning 4SPF oil and im ready to get that colour of a superstar!!, why this way?, because NO-AD gives you the dark tan that you are looking for whit out knowing (I just have to spray once in a while to keep the tan lasting with out getting sunburn) , as it is the first lotion that my skin dosent have to go trough that 3 day period of becoming red and then calm down to see whats the final tan i will get, AND the most important thing, if u put some protection lotion before the oil one, u dont peal off!... so for me, I recomend the product NO-AD 100% I hope this review helps anybody to c
I'm a lifeguard and at the pool I work for, we go through a LOT of sunscreen. We love the No-Ad 30 spf that you can get at wal-mart or the dollar tree. You have to apply pretty regularly, as with any sunscreen if you are in the sun for long periods of time or in the water, as we are. You get a lot more bang for your buck with No-Ad, and when you're going through about 30oz of sunscreen a week, that's important. As long as you keep it off your face, No-Ad is great. I would recommend a solid sunscreen for faces if you have sensitive skin as the no-ad does run into the eyes if you have it on your face.
Great comparison..!! :-)
