No BS, 'Same Name' Comes to CBS

Nice Stretch for This Show

As the Sunday edition of "Today" proceeded, on came a story about Kate Middleton. No, not that one, but someone who shares the same name as the upcoming royal bride. To be honest, it sounded like a bit of a stretch to localize and bring this story across the pond. Then again, it happens all the time even though it may be, well, stupid. This Kate lives here in the U.S. and of course, her life has been turned upside down.

Then this landed on pile on Monday. It's from CBS and it concerns a new show which will air this summer called "Same Name."

See where this is going? Again, it's called "Same Name."

You guessed it, "Same Name" deals with people who have the same name as a celebrity.

The pilot episode features David Hasselhoff and a 27-year-old same name from Texas. For a week, they find out what it is like to live that life.

Really? Come on.

No, reality, come on.

How much will this need to be edited and added with filler? Much like "Extreme Makeover" this show will no doubt go for the emotional zing, which will need help with staffers, writers and idea-makers, to say the least.

This is how they describe it: "They may have the same names but their lives couldn't be more different," said Jennifer Bresnan, CBS Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming. "Walking in each other's shoes and experiencing their home life, work and other activities reveals moments of humor, laughter and unexpected emotion."

The "unexpected emotion is the red flag here.

From CBS: Each one-hour episode will feature a well known personality who switches places with a person bearing the same name. For one week, the star and their counterpart live in each other's houses, meet and interact with family, friends and co-workers and experience how the other lives. In the pilot episode, David Hasselhoff journeys to Lake Jackson, Texas, to meet and trade lives with a 27-year-old high voltage power technician/landscaper who shares his name.

And he most likely had to sign a waiver just in case the Hoff buzzed himself. This one is in the can, so if we see David on some other show, he made it. Meanwhile, look for clues to other celebrities who decided to take this unreal jump this summer.
