No Closed Doors in My Mind
Cry in the Wilderness Poetry & Prose Series Volume 2 Created by Debbie Dunn
No Closed Doors In My Mind
What truths I'm discovering about myself
And what puzzles I find
That still need to be pieced together.
I don't understand myself
Quite as much
As I once thought I did.
I thought that I knew everything
There was to know about me
Up to date.
But I'm finding that only today
Do I finally really understand
The why of some events
That happened years past.
The humbling truth is
That there is never just one way
To look at anything.
I realize now
That whatever happens in my future
Will only serve to help me
Better understand my past
As long as I no longer
Self-righteously close a door
Feeling that there is no need
To ever unlock that door again.
I must have no closed doors in my mind.
But allow my thoughts to wander free
Wherever they wish to go
Never coming up on a sign
That says "Dead End"
Which, if they knew enough to look
Will see that the reverse side says
"New beginnings ... ."
