No Cure in Sight for CFD Managing Symptoms is Best Option

Gayle Crabtree
There are no good numbers to know how many people suffer from CFD. Reports indicate that it may be on the rise worldwide. In the United States it is estimated that millions suffer from the disorder. What if you or a friend has it? Many people don't even realize that they have this. Without a cure, what can you do?

Two different forms of CFD exist. Those with the worst problem are carriers of the disease. Even worse is the fact that those with the most severe cases may not realize that they are carriers. Thus, the problem continues and is often an ever declining spiral.

The second group of people with CFD shows more outward symptoms than carriers. Sufferers have reported symptoms such as seeing red or feeling frustrated. Some people with this form of CFD have reported a rise in blood pressure (although this has not been adequately documented).

CfD stands for Compulsive Forwarding Disorder. Those who suffer from it may also suffer delusions of receiving prizes, money or extra blessings by participating.

All the sufferers of CFD have to do is input the email address of everyone they know onto an email and hit the forward button. Mysterious tracking monitors the progress of the email and automatically deliverss the appropriate prize into the carrier's inbox. That the promised goods never materialize is lost on the CFD carrier.

The next stage for these sufferers is bewilderment. They will sometimes spend hours wondering why no one is answering their emails. Sufferers of CFD in this stage often report feeling lonely or rejected. Occasionally, they will get word that their well intentioned emails have been snagged in various spam filters.

Not receiving that information promptly can cause the carrier to develop a more advanced form of the disease known as Power-CFD or Hyper-CFD. Again, there is no cure but preliminary reports indicate behavior modification on the part of the carrier may slow down progression of the disease.

Secondary sufferers of CFD also must face life with no cure. They are unable to escape from the carriers of this disease.

Fortunately, there are tools available that may help manage symptoms. These include the use of email spam filters. The down side is that such filters have a difficult time recognizing which emails carry spam content and which do not. Therefore, once a spam filter is activated all emails from the carrier may be blocked.

It should be noted that anti-virus programs have only shown limited effectiveness. Emails from CFD carriers have rarely been shown to be infected even though the content may be highly questionable.

Secondary sufferers of Compulsive Forwarding Disorder may (or may not) want to know that the disorder is beginning to mutate. Once it was the domain only of email. Now, carriers of CFD are beginning to infect text messages, mobile phones and other forms of social media.

So far, the tool showing the most promise for secondary CFD sufferers is the "delete" key. This allows for some information from carriers to come through and leaves the questionable content out.

Options for CFD sufferers themselves are even more limited. Behavior modification through the use of Snopes.com is highly encouraged. Destroying the forward button may also be a viable solution for some carriers.

Unplugging from the computer entirely has shown only limited effectiveness for both types of sufferers. Studies have shown that when some CFD sufferers are separated from their computer for too long they begin to develop a disorder commonly known as the "chain letter".

The best news is that this disorder has come entirely from the dark recesses of the mind of this writer. She is a (sometime) secondary CFD sufferer who is tired of receiving empty false promises of prizes, blessings and riches. These promises clutter her inbox and make her see red, it raises her blood pressure and causes her much frustration.

Instead of receiving email forwards filled with empty promises this writer has a request for the original senders. Forget the emails, send the cash. It's quicker and better for all involved. Pay Pal, checks, money orders, credit cards and I.O.U.s are not accepted.

Sufferers of Compulsive Forwarding Disorder should take note. Rumors are that an online CFD support group may be being developed. Educational information may soon be coming from the CFD carriers to an email inbox near you.

Please forward this message to 10 of your friends so that they too may receive the laughs that you just enjoyed. Doing so in the next 5 minutes won't earn you anything extra but sure is a good way to spread the word.

Many years ago, this former CFD sufferer developed a tool called a BSF (BS Filter) which, when melded to the mind, effectively stops CFD in its tracks. The BSF also works well against all forms of BS, even when not attached to social media and the Internet.
