Web applications are browser based seeds of innovation. Their main purpose is to make a task easier, while doing away with the need to clutter your hard drive with another bloated EXE file. Some web applications alternatives to commercial programs. While others deliver a new spin on popular computer based activities. Here are a few that caught my eye.

Top 7 Web Apps:Pixlr.
Pixlr is a flash based image editor. While it definitely isn't as full featured as a GIMP or Photoshop, it's still leaps and bounds above what you'll find with MS Paint. Pixlr offers a ton of filters, layers, a decent amount of brush options, and loads quickly.

Instacalc is an online super calculator that can do variables, trigonometry, bin/hex conversion, etc. When typing a fairly long and drawn out equation, it updates the answer as you type it in. You can use multiple rows to create short cuts for equations as well.

Top 7 Web Apps:Google Reader.
With Google Reader, you can store and organize RSS feed subscriptions, get targeted recommendations based on what kind of feeds you've already subscribed to, and share subscriptions with friends. It's extremely useful because, much like most of Google's other applications, your feeds can be accessed from your iGoogle homepage.

Top 7 Web Apps:Meebo.
Use instant messaging services without downloading software. Meebo can be used to access such popular IM services as to sign into America Online Instant messenger, MSN, ICQ, etc.

Top 7 Web Apps:Posterous.
Posterous is probably the wave of the future when it comes to publishing content on the web. You can set up and create blog posts just by sending an email to their website. When attaching files(mp3, video, pics, etc.), your post will automatically be formatted depending on what type of files are included. Posterous seems like an app that will make blogging easier than it is already. It's blogging for people who have Gmail open 24/7.
