No Goodbye?

A Poem

Etienne J. Sarfelli

Maybe you don't know how to say goodbye

So you blow me off instead

It's easier than saying you'll miss me

It's easier than knowing that I will cry

Once you are gone

Or maybe you would rather I break down in anger

Than in sadness

But whatever the reason

It seems you are going to walk away

Without ever saying a word

You will disappear from my life

From my world

turn your back on our friendship

And never look back

Or at least that is your plan
But there will come a day when you will miss me

When you will wish that you had given me a proper goodbye

So that you can return to say hello again

Maybe I will let you back in anyway

But there are never any guarantees In life

You know you should have said something before you left

Goodbye was only one of the many possibilities

You could have said you would see me again someday

And given us both something to look forward to.
