No Jail Time for Paris Hilton

Valerie Ferrari
Paris Hilton is only going to get a year's probation in connection with her recent arrest in Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal, when she was found to be carrying a small bag of cocaine, which fell out of her Chanel bag.

The 29 year old Hilton Hotel heiress has agreed to a plea bargain where she will enter guilty pleas to misdemeanor drug possession and a misdemeanor charge of "obstructing."

The charge of obstructing was added when Paris Hilton's lie to the police in an effort to get off the hook was exposed. She had initially told police that she had borrowed the Chanel bag and thought the bag of cocaine was "chewing gum." Photos of Paris carrying the very same bag in earlier months soon surfaced but one in particular established who owned it: a Twit pic Paris had posted herself, accompanied by the comment: "Love my new Chanel purse I got today :)"

For those who were wishing Miss Hilton would go back to jail for a few hours at least, the Las Vegas Review Journal article points out that even if Paris had been convicted of the original felony charge, she would not have gone to jail: "By statute a conviction for felony cocaine possession requires mandatory probation."

The plea agreement also involves two consecutive 6 month sentences in the Clark County Detention Center, which will be suspended. If Paris Hilton gets arrested during the next year, she will be in hot soup and then she will be required to serve those 12 months. The only circumstances that won't result in Paris Hilton be hauled off to the Clark County Detention Center are minor traffic violations .

The deal is accompanied by the usual additions of substance abuse treatment, a $2,000 fine and community service. Paris Hilton will be required to serve 200 hours of community service of a type not yet decided upon.

The Clark County District Attorney David Roger remarked: "We fashioned a resolution which would give us complete control over her future. If she does not toe the line and stay out of trouble she will do one year in the Clark County Detention Center," which is all well and good but what authority does he have if Paris is arrested in Kathmandu?

"There are very strict limits on her future conduct. We will not have to litigate whether she was convicted of the charge or whether the charge was a major or minor offense," Roger continued. He indicated that there would be no special treatment for Paris who will have to appear in court "just like any other criminal defendant."

I guess he means strict limits on her conduct in Nevada, but since casino tycoon, Steve Wynn cut ties with her boyfriend, Cy Waits and banned her from his properties in the fallout from the August 27th arrest, maybe she doesn't have any reason to go to Nevada anymore, unless they make her report in person to the probation department in Nevada or do her community service there.

Paris Hilton is due in court on Monday, September 20th, to enter her plea. Cy Waits has a court date of November 29th to face a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

No shocker that she's not getting any time. Boy does she need to grow up, though!

Another great article, Valerie. Glad my girls don't look to this girl as a role-model.

"No special treatment"...yeah, right. Today is September 19 and it's a Sunday. If her court date is tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 20, we'll see just how tough the courts are with her.

Dear, troubled Paris, with all she has had to overcome . . . . wealth, privilege and beauty are such hardships.

She should join the cast of 'Jersey Shore.'

Great article. 29 is a very adult age. It is time Paris grew up and started acting like an adult. If she finds out how to do it she should share the information with Lindsay Lohan!
