No Makeup: Scary Hollywood Beauty Trend

Do You Want the Look?

Dallas Bolen
I admit it. I am scared. It appears that the newest and hottest trend in Hollywood is doing photo shoots sans makeup. I consider myself a person that keeps abreast of new trends, but I am sure that you will understand if I hesitate a little with this one. Seriously, sites like www.topsocialite.com and www.celebritieswithoutmakeup.com have made catching stars looking their worst a great American pastime. Now it seems as if Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum, and Mariah Carey are making it quite the in thing to go without makeup.

For all of you souls, (far braver than I), that are ready to take the plunge, there are a few things that you need to know to look your best without the aid of cosmetics.

1. Makeup hides blemishes. This is no big secret, but if you plan on a naked-faced debut, it is is something that you will want to consider. Starting a regimen to clear up acne and other spots is a must. I suggest using a product like Proactiv, available at www.proactiv.com for at least two weeks before you plan on ditching your cosmetics. It apparently worked well enough for Jessica Simpson to go without makeup.

2. Exfoliating daily is another must. This sloughs away dry, dead cells, and encourages new cell growth. A good product to try is Dermalogica, available at www.ULTA.com. It gets the job done, and it is gentle enough for daily use.

3. Moisturize. Hydrated skin equals youthful-looking skin. I recommend using a system that includes a face/neck treatment with a separate eye treatment like Hydroxytone (www.hydroxytone.com). This is a great product that your skin benefits from immediately. Tip: Use the eye cream on your lips as well, it has the same hydrating anti-aging effect on your lips as it does in the eye area.

4. Drink plenty of water. Hydrating from the inside is just as important as moisturizing on the outside. Our bodies are made up of 75% water, and hydrated cells are plumper and younger looking.

5. Stay away from high fat, greasy, salty foods. These types of foods can not only cause breakouts, but they can also make your face appear bloated.

6. Groom your brows. Without makeup, your eyebrows define your entire face. When groomed properly you will have a fresh faced, polished look as opposed to a messy, unkempt one.

7. Get a natural glow. A few minutes of sun a day, in the morning can do wonders for you complexion. It is important, however that you wear a hypoallergenic sunscreen during the other hours of the day.

8. Get plenty of rest. There is no way to hide those bags under your eyes without concealer, so if you are planning to go without makeup, make sure you get your eight hours. Tip: Refrigerated slices of potatoes placed on the eyes for about 10 minutes will help to get rid of any puffiness.

That is everything that you need to know about going makeup-free. See you at the cosmetics counter!
