No More Deposit Envelopes? Life Made Easier at the ATM Machine

Brian Munger
Like the rest of you, I love receiving a check. It doesn't matter what the amount is, or who it came from, I love receiving money! Upon receiving a check, I have always utilized the ATM machine to make my deposit. I'm sure you know the process. First, you find an envelope; however, that can be easier said than done. If you ever go to the bank on a Saturday, then you occasionally find that all the envelopes have already been used, presumably by many people who received their paychecks on Friday. Or perhaps the deposit-envelopes are all missing because some young punk thought it would be funny to steal them all. Yea, that's really not that exciting, but when you're 15, you really don't care.

So, if you are lucky enough to find an envelope, you then insert your check and seal the envelope. You then enter the deposit amount on the ATM machine, but then realize you forgot what the amount was! You then have to rip open your envelope and retrieve your check to see what the amount is. Afterwards, you must find a new envelope, insert the check, and repeat the process over again.

Using an envelope to make deposits is definitely not the most time-consuming task to complete, but nevertheless, I've always found it to be a pain in the butt.

If any of you share those feelings, then have no fear! A cure is here! Last night, I used an ATM machine at a local Bank of America. I went to deposit a check, but was immediately confused when I approached the machine. There were no envelopes! There wasn't even an envelope slot! What was going on? I then realized that there were some added gadgets to this machine. There was a slot to put your check through! Yes, a slot for your check! No more envelopes needed! It was the coolest thing! I simply inserted my check into the slot and it somehow magically read my check and asked me to confirm that the amount was $50.00. I was quite impressed by this! The guy who had wrote me the check does not have good penmanship. To say he writes "chicken-scratch" would be a compliment to this guy. Despite his awful hand writing, the machine was miraculously able to read the check amount. And when it asks you to confirm the amount, it even shows you a photo of your check on the screen. I was speechless!

I don't know if this is the best thing since sliced bread, but hey, it made my day and I just wanted to share my joy and happiness with you all!

Way to go, Bank of America! You saved all of us a couple extra seconds of our precious time! You also saved some trees! Great job!

Works great if you have only one check, If uyou are a business customer deposting many checks, then this new system really sucks. It takes about one minute for each check, instead of one minute for a single envelope.
