No Multiplayer for Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time

The Playstation 3 exclusive game, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, won't feature any multiplayer support. A Crack in Time is the seventh main title in the Ratchet and Clank series and the third Ratchet and Clank Future game on the Playstation 3. Insomniac Games started working on the series after finishing work on the Spyro games on the original Playstation. Because the rights were sold for the Spyro titles, they have to come up with a new intellectual property.

Thus, Ratchet and Clank was born on the Playstation 2 in 2002. The games feature a sci-fi setting starring a furry creature (Ratchet) and his robot sidekick (Clank). Ratchet and Clank is most notable for its use of creative weapons to dispose of enemies.

The third game in the series, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, added online multiplayer in 2004. The next game, Ratchet: Deadlocked, also include online gameplay when it was released in 2005. Afterwards, Insomniac Games went on to start a new franchise called Resistance on the Playstation 3. The first-person shooter and its eventual sequel both included online multiplayer.

Given their recent history, many thought that Insomniac Games would continue the tradition with the Ratchet and Clank Future series on the Playstation 3. However, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (released in 2007) and Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty (a Playstation Network title in 2008) both came without any online multiplayer.

The same treatment will be given to the upcoming Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Although Insomniac Games admitted that they enjoy adding online multiplayer to the final two Playstation 2 Ratchet & Clank games, they couldn't add it in the Playstation 3 iterations. This is because they operate on a one game per year basis, which is a really short time in terms of game development.

Adding multiplayer to Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time would take away from the single-player experience. The upcoming Playstation 3 exclusive game will wrap up the story in Ratchet and Clank Future saga. As a result, Insomniac Games wants to focus on polishing the story mode instead of dividing valuable resources to include online multiplayer.

They may also been a little hesitant after what happen with their last game. Many fans criticized the award-winning developer in Resistance 2 when they felt that the single-player mode lacked polish. For that particular title, Insomniac Games included some rather ambitious online multiplayer modes.

Thus, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time won't have any multiplayer modes when it comes out this fall exclusively on the Playstation 3.

Nah, they are just lazy. Working on a one game a year basis is pretty lazy, greedy and ludicrous. Honestly, just spend more time on creating one game and they would get the same amount of sales as they would for creating 50 'Half-Arsed' games. Stop being lazy. Create a decent game. Scrap the Ratchet series. Scrap Resistance AND LEARN FROM YOUR FORMER FRIENDS, NAUGHTYDOG!!!!!

multiplayer wastes too much of my personal time. I only care about the quality of single player games. nohting more.

Man, that sucks! I was really looking forward to the multiplayer in this one. Well, at least the campaign will be really good.
