This has bothered me for a very long time, Today, again a motorcycle rider without a helmet cut in from of my car with only inches to spare, and of course did not signal the lane change. He then proceeded to speed away. I was going the speed limit, and he left me in the dust. I have been driving thirty-eight years, and nothing ever changes.
Here in Arizona we have not yet passed a law to require helmets. Therefore the majority of motorcycle riders I see, Do Not have helmets. Why we should have to legislate for stupidity is beyond my comprehension. Yes, there is always freedom of choice, even the stupid have that right. But what gets me is when these drivers end up getting killed, maimed, brain damaged, and end up in comas it's their family that goes through the agony, and for what? You got me, is the breeze blowing through your hair worth your life, limbs, brains, or death? Quite frankly, I have never been that stupid so I really don't understand.
It's not just the helmet issue, that's their problem and unfortunately their families. What really gets me is the speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, and total disregard for traffic laws, and safety. Hey, if they want to die that bad, that's their choice, I just don't want to go along with them.
On a weekly basis here in Arizona there's on the news a story about a motorcycle rider getting, seriously hurt, or dying. Usually they end up dead. On occasion it is the fault of another vehicle that the accident happened. Most often, they find the motorcycle driver at fault. Most times they are not wearing a helmet. As far as I can see the only explanation is a serious death wish. I mean these are grown drivers, who even with the most minimal of intelligence should be able to figure out, they have to be a safer deriver on a motorcycle, than in a vehicle, because they have little or no protection against injury.
My biggest beef about this though is them hurting others by their stupid choices. If you want to be dangerous, go out in the desert, where you can only kill yourself, and not take anyone else with you. Really, they can be as bad as drunk drivers.
In the end I can have any pity for those motorcycle drivers who choose to be dangerous, and cause a danger to others. Where my pity does lie is with the grieving families of those drivers who die, or the family members who have to take care of their seriously disabled loved ones, that decided playing Easy Rider was worth the agony they put their families through!
FYI: It's not just about you, the motorcycle driver, there is others to consider, including your loved ones!

Post a CommentJason: Come to Arizona! I have been driving for almost 40 years, and MOST of the riders I have seen ahve NO hemets, NO protective gear, and weave in and out of track dangerously, while speeding!
Here is some facts. I have been riding for years and have found that its not the rider (myself and the people I ride with) whom wear gloves, helmets, jackets, and sometimes even armored jeans that are the safety risk. We ride safely, at normal speeds, and do not weave in and out of traffic. I am not an exception.... many of us that ride ride safely. I am 27 years old and value my life; yet at the same time value my ability to enjoy life doing things that I find enjoyable.
Lets get to people like you that do not understand motorcycle riders. We enjoy living, enjoy our lives, and most of us do have families that we would never want to hurt.
Riding a motorcycle does present some risks, but so does riding in a boat, driving a car, tattoos, smoking, drinking, eating fast food, etc.
The biggest danger that a motorcycle rider faces (check it out for yourself if you dont believe me) is obstruction of right-of-way. That means that 3/4 for all motorcycle accidents are the fault of mo
P.R. Perhaps you should stop worrying about my oppinion and take a look at your attitude. Yes, as a former counselor I have counseled people who have been devestated by the choices others have made to ride a motorcycle, and to NOT do it safely. Have you ever seen a small child without one of their legs because a supposedly grown man thought it was fun to take their child riding?? Part of life is making good decisions that Doesn't end up hurting others. You are either very young, or very naive, perhaps both!
Heavy duty judgment (have you ever been 19?) and lack of humility, "I have never been that stupid..." and this from someone who calls herself "spiritual" and a "counselor"...
P.R.
Some of these guys scare me to death when they weave in and out of traffic at about 90 miles an hour.
Justice: I was engaged to a semi-driver, and belive me they are more dangerous! lol
There is some truth to what you say, but from the cyclist's point of view, many drivers think that since a bike is smaller than a car, they don't have to give them a full lane space when passing, for example. A lot of cyclists get hurt or killed due to the negligence of automobile drivers, too. Now, let's talk about some o' them semi-truck drivers (lol).
I do agree.............
;-);-)
A lot of truth there.
