No Resolutions

Just Do It!

Maricia D. C. Johns
At the end of this year 2008 I am making the same resolutions for the coming year that I have made for the last few years--not to have any resolutions. Yeah, you heard me right; I am not going to have any resolutions. Resolutions are really meant to be broken. The gyms will be packed with all the people who resolve to get rid of the extra weight. You can always tell them because they are the ones with the new workout clothing they got for Christmas. People will flock to the bookstores buying books they promised themselves they would read the previous year. They got gift cards and are looking for Oprah's Book Club books. The majority of the resolutions made by most people are the same ones they make each and every year. If you want to do something then do as Nike does-"Just Do It."

I'm going to do some fantastic work this year, but I'm not going to resolve to do it, I'm just going to do it. Call it a goal or whatever you want to call it, but it is not a resolution. It's just something that I am going to do.

I'm going to be kinder to myself. I'm going to love me like I've never been loved before. I'm going to be a bit selfish, but that's okay. Don't get me wrong; I'm going to love my family from my wonderful husband to my terrific girls, my loving sister, brother/sister in-law and all the relatives in between. My friends will continue to receive my love and attention, but I'm going to have an affair with myself. When you see me smiling, you will know that I have been loved by the best-"me." I've always taken pretty good care of myself from exercising to trying to eat correctly, but this year, watch out-it is about me. I will exercise, but I will have my cake too.

Life is not about resolutions, life is about living, and that's it. I'm going to live life to it's fullest. This means that the better I am to myself, the better I will be to others that I come into contact with. There is no need to make these things into resolutions-they are just things that I will accomplish in the coming year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND GOD BLESS

Hi Maricia, Many thanks for your comment about my article. Again it seems to have similar themes to the one you have written here. It's all about being pro-active and getting the job done. I'm looking forward to reading more of your work. All the best and have a successful, bright New Year. All the best
    George
