No Rest for the Wicked

Lisa R. Strong
It is another late night;
And sleep will not come;
Too many thoughts churning;
Within my over-active mind;
Like a TV that is left on;
And I can't find the remote control;
Or the power off button;
My stomach is nauseous;
Acid burns my throat so sore;
There is no comfort;
In my big, soft bed;
Days and nights are confused;
I have to get up early;
What am I to do?
I curl up under the blankets;
With my eyes wide open;
Staring at the luminous numbers;
From a digital clock;
Bathed in subtle moonlight;
Please, Lord, I pray;
Even just a little sleep;
Would be better than no sleep at all

    I know the mocking...haunting glow of that digital alarm clock. I am an insomniac, (which explains some of my poems...lol), and often times, sleep does not find me.
    I like this piece. Great job!

    I hate those sleepless nights especially when you have to crawl out of bed for work very early in the morning. I hope you are sleeping soundly now, and this was a great poem. :)

    Please get some sleep. I understand though: There's so much to do, and you only get 24 hours in a day!

    I can easily relate to this. I do not get a lot of sleep. During the day, I am usually pretty tired in the afternoon.

    Boy you said it and said it well! I'm sure many of us have felt this rush of thoughts, worries, feelings. Thanks.
