No Security in the Paid to Read Industry

Angel
Anyone anywhere can start a paid to read website with about $300. This means any person who wishes to sell their members personal information can do so and you would be none the wiser.

Paid to read websites lack in security because many of the owners don't use proper passwords and unfortunately all Cash Crusader scripts operate the exact same way. So if one site has a hacking hole, they all do. The admin panels are all in the same place and directory which doesn't make them hard to find. Much like phpbb forums all have the same default information, that's how Cash Crusader scripts operate too. But there aren't enough clever paid to read webmasters out there who move the script like many move the phpbb forums. Thus changing the settings to make the site harder to hack, but until this is realized there will always be some sort of risk to the webmaster and its members. Added to this, if the webmaster has been hacked has a virus or Trojan the site is as risk and the Cash Crusader scripts doesn't have protection against such things, making their even less security in paid to read industry.

Many members don't read the terms of service of paid to read websites they wish to join, and many of the bad webmasters count on this very issue. I have seen terms of service say such things as "Payout will be given when webmaster feels like it." Which could be never, after all who wants to give up money? And even this "Payments will be made within 100 years or a reasonable time after. Admin fee for payout is 100%." Sick huh? But true.

Because paid to read websites are ran from all over the world, there isn't any protection for the members that may end up victims of bad paid to read webmasters. There is no site out there that protects against such issues either. There is a scam site that only assists in helping itself profit, but the getpaidtoboycott website does not assist ANYONE in legal matters, I only mention this because I am certain someone will comment about it.

If a paid to read webmaster has a partner or a helper the trust level has to be really high. I have been a member of a website where the partner took off with the funds, then opened up his own paid to read website and is still operating it today. A partner or helper opens the door to them getting angry and splitting and screwing the members in the process. A helper opens the doors to greed. Eventually that helper will want something in return, and the more help they give the more they will want. You have to have a very good working relationship with your helper and partner in order to be able to pull off a good working secure paying website.

Another thing that many members don't realize is how often paid to read websites are sold off and many times they aren't told about this. This is rather frustrating because you join a site putting your faith, and trust in the webmaster to later find out it's not the same person. Also, the webmaster may be a good one, and then not have the time or money to take care of the site, and pass it on to another - who is a bad webmaster who plans on running in the end. It's like a game of poker, you do have to consider the risks and ask yourself if it's worth it in the end.

The only way to have some sort of security in your own life against bad paid to read webmasters and their partners is to use a email address no one has, a mailing address that isn't yours but is close enough or at least real so your account won't be closed for breaching the terms of service that state you will give a real mailing address. There is NO reason on the face of the planet why a paid to read email webmaster would need your mailing address unless by some miracle you earn over $600 in a year (which has to be claimed on your taxes or, you are asking to be paid by check.)

Very interesting. It sort of makes one feel even more concerned about joining and new PTR sites.
