So you don't have a home office? Well, don't let a lack of space stop you. Just because you have no spare room, doesn't mean you can't have an office. You can make yourself a cozy little space somewhere in the house, can't you? I know I had some unusual office spaces in my days of being a single parent. Sometimes I didn't even have a bedroom of my own. I still managed to find a spot for a desk and chair in those tiny apartments.
I once had a home office on a stair landing. I was living on the third floor in one of those homes that was converted into apartments. There was a stair to nowhere in my apartment. I put it to good use. I used the bottom flight for storage. The landing was my office. The top flight wall was used to hang some coats. You might also try putting an office under a stairway if you have an open space or a stairway closet like Harry Potter.
Send your home office to the corner. What corner? Any corner. If you have a large bedroom, living room or other area that you don't utilize fully, you could use one corner for your home office. I had my home office right next to the front door in my last apartment. That whole apartment was only 700 square feet. If I could fit my desk there, you could do it too.
How about a home office in your dining nook? You have a main dining room. You don't use your kitchen table nook much. Why not turn the nook into a home office? It should be a cheerful spot with all that kitchen sunshine. Or, if you mainly use the kitchen nook, you could use the dining room for your office.
You can make a nice little home office in a spare closet. Just remove the doors. Take down the clothes bar. Put your desk inside the closet. You can leave your chair outside the closet so you don't get claustrophobic. Chances are, you even have a nice shelf over the desk to store your extra office supplies. Leave the doors on if you want to hide your messy desk when not in use.
What about a home office in a hallway, entryway or mudroom? If you have no extra room at all, these spaces might work. Of course, the mudroom by the back door would be the most private, peaceful home office. If you keep your office neat and don't mind small intrusions, an entryway is just as good. A wide hallway allows you to place your desk and chair on one side and still have room to walk past.
