- a letter to the past -

My dear friend,
I know your meaning
better
than I might ever tell.

I have meant to respond
to your letter
before this late date -

It is only through the feeling
I did not ever have the time
to utter a fraction of the words
I would tell - not dereliction
nor lack of want.

I have thought much
of you through the years...

You may never know
the good it did my soul
to find you again.

Much time has passed,
and much - good
and not so - has happened
over the intervening gulf
of time.

Tell me a little of your tale?
Tell of the years - harms, joys,
they have offered - I in turn
will respond in kind

Tell your tale - let us reclaim
the endless hours
of quiet contemplations,
of conversations,
of cruising the old
1-A so long ago...
