NoAbortion Coverage

Abortion in health care bill? I had to go read what the amendment said and found it at

To me this discussion really points out the weakness of the pro-choice viewpoint. The congresswoman says that women won't buy insurance to cover an unexpected pregnancy if the government does not do it for them. Does she really believe women are so incapable that they won't buy the extra insurance on their own? The Stupak-Pitts amendment gives the woman the freedom to choose and also upholds the current law of the land. In fact this amendment only makes it the woman's responsibility to find the right plan or rider.

Which brings up the whole hypocrisy of our government funded health care system. The Hyde amendment says no government money can be used for abortion except in the case of the life of the mother, rape or incest. Yet our government funds the non-profit Planned Parenthood millions of dollars each year. Planned Parenthood is doing abortions all the time and making a profit. So why don't we really give the women the choice and cut off Planned Parenthood funding too.

In my opinion an abortion should not be an easy thing to get. What the congresswoman seems to be after is making abortion easy to get. We live in a day of easy everything and let the government or the next guy pay for it. Easy to get services for life and death choices should not be part of public plans. In fact the government should not even be making such a sweeping health care bill. "We the people" should be helping one another directly and through our public servants to make sure "We the people" have good food, clean air and clean water. So lets give the men and women more freedoms. Lay off many of our public servants, fund only basic services and cap private health providers like we do the gas and electric companies. Then let everyone choose his or her own health care package. It might work like the cable companies and these providers will eat each other up instead of eating up "We the peoples" tax dollars.

I have had no health insurance for a few years now so I am careful about my diet and other habits. Maybe if men and women were held more accountable for their reproductive and other health care choices they would be more careful too.
