Nobu Restaurant in NYC: an Unforgettable Dining Experience

SweetReviewer
Nobu, in New York is located in the Tribeca neighborhood. This is a Japanese-Peruvian restaurant. It's well known for its sushi. It's been awarded the Fodors Choice and 10 Best NY Sushi awards.

Nobu features a perfect venue for special occasions. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll find a power house atmosphere. This restaurant features private rooms. It is the flagship restaurant of celebrity Chef Nobu Matsuhisa. Nobu partnered with actor Robert De Niro, producer Meir Teper, restaurateur Drew Nieporent, and managing partner Richard Notar to bring his modern Japanese to Tribeca.

I heard it's so hard to get reservations I guess I simply got lucky. I got reservations the same day may 31 2007 for my boyfriends' birthday they only had 5pm and 9pm available so I took the later time. I was so exited and didn't know what to expect. We are rather adventurous with cuisine but we are not all that into sushi but simply wanted to know what all the fuss was about this restaurant. It's known as a powerhouse packed with celebrities. I called the restaurant a second time and notified them of the birthday I arrived at the place 10 min late. Of course we called to let them know we were going to be late. The lady that attended me on the phone sounded very nice. Once we finally got there, there was a small crowd lined up in Nobu next door which is obviously right next door to Nobu you don't have to have reservations for Nobu next door. As we entered, the greeter seated us and the waiter was indeed very knowledgeable and helpful I ordered a Riesling it's a German white wine. My boyfriend ordered a mango martini which is Vodka infused with sundried mango & fresh pineapple juice which was very good. For the first course we chose Tuna Tataki with Ponzu. It was so delicious it contained spices, not too spicy though. For the entrée I chose the Filet of Salmon with Teriyaki and my boyfriend chose the chicken with teriyaki sauce as well. They have different types of sauces you can choose from. You're basically eating Japanese style with chopsticks only while you're having dessert does the waiter bring you utensils. We did get a complimentary soup which was alright not the best but it was fairly good. For dessert I had the Bento Box which is Warm Valrhona chocolate souffle cake, shiso syrup, white chocolate sauce and green tea and my boyfriend had the coconut jasmine bombe which is Coconut sorbet surrounding jasmine ice cream and coconut meringue with yogurt sauce. They were both really good. The food there is sort of indescribable

You sort of feel a tingling sensation in your taste buds while savoring every element of the cuisine. Yes it is true the food is expensive but I believe that it's worth it I've never had Japanese food that good!! It is also true about the celebrity siding Damon Wayans from the TV show my wife and kids was there dining with his family. It was a wonderful atmosphere except if you want romance, don't expect it. The atmosphere is very loud you almost have to yell across the table to get you're point across because all the tables are not too far from each other and everyone is chatting up a storm. But it was well worth going and trying it out I would definitely go back once again. Let me just tell you that when they brought the birthday desert with the candle to my boyfriend he had surprised me as well. My birthday had passed May 13 and well we had already celebrated my birthday! It was his turn now, but he also told them it was my birthday and they sang happy birthday to me as well!! So yeah there was a little romance that took place at NOBU. Lastly if you want to taste the same kind of food and don't want to spend too much and you cant get reservations I heard Nobu next door is just as good.
