Noby Noby Boy has an unusually long development time for a Playstation Network game. The concept started during the development of We Love Katamari on the Playstation 2. Once that project was finished in 2005, Keita Takahashi and his team begin working on Noby Noby Boy. The first footage of the game was shown in late 2007. It would be one and a half years later until Noby Noby Boy was finally released as a Playstation Network title on the Playstation Store of the Playstation 3. Furthermore, support continued post-launched with a free patch that added numerous new features including a multiplayer mode for up to four players.
All the efforts are paying off for Namco Bandai with 100,000 copies sold so far. That is quite impressive when taking into consideration that Noby Noby Boy is a weird game, even more so than the Katamari Damacy series. The game features a creature that can stretch to uncountable lengths. With direct control of him, you can mess around is a sand box full of humans, animals and obstacles. The experience only gets more surreal the more you play this Playstation Network title.
Despite the fact that it isn't a game for everybody, Noby Noby Boy still sold 100,000 copies. One of the main contributing factors to its success is the name behind the project. Keita Takahashi is responsible for the popular Katamari Damacy series and well respected among the gaming community. Noby Noby Boy got some good publicity alone based on its background.
Furthermore, this Playstation Network game was priced at an extremely affordable price tag at $4.99 on the Playstation Store. As a result, this resulted in many impulse buys for those who were curious. The fact is that Noby Noby Boy wouldn't have sold nearly as well if it were priced at $9.99.
After achieving big success on the Playstation Network of the Playstation 3, Bandai Namco is bringing their quirkily title to the iPhone. Bandai Namco can only hope to find similar success for Noby Noby Boy on the handheld as it achieved on the Playstation 3.
