The first no-hitter of the 2010 season was on April 17, 2010; Ubaldo Jimenez pitched a no-hitter for the National League Colorado Rockies versus the Atlanta Braves. The Rockies beat the Braves 4-0 capped by great pitching by Jimenez as well as perfect defense taking hits away from the Atlanta Braves.
The second no-hitter of 2010 came on May 9, 2010; Dallas Braden of the American League Oakland Athletics threw a perfect game beating the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 4-0.
The third no-hitter of 2010 occurred on May 29, 2010; Roy Holliday of the National League Philadelphia Phillies pitched a perfect game against the Florida Marlins for a 1-0 win.
The fourth no-hitter of 2010 happened on June 26, 2010; Edwin Jackson of the National League Arizona Diamondbacks threw a no-hitter beating the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1-0. Tampa Bay has had two (2) no-hitters thrown against them this year.
The fifth no-hitter of 2010 occurred July 26, 2010; Matt Garza of the American League Tampa Bay Devil Rays blanketed the Detroit Tigers by a score of 5-0. This is the first no-hitter ever thrown by the Tampa Bay staff and also Garza helped Tampa Bay since they have had two (2) no-hitters pitched against them this year.
Really, this year there should have been six (6) no-hitters but a blown call cost Armando Calarraga of the Detroit Tigers a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians on June 2, 2010. Umpire Jim Joyce called Jason Donald safe when Calarraga was clearly shown catching the ball before the hitter's foot was on the bag. So it went down a 3-0, 1-hit win for Calarraga and the Detroit Tigers. The umpire admitted he missed the call and the rest is history.
Maybe we will see a few more no-hitters before the 2010 MLB season is over. This seems to be the year of pitching a no-hitter. Pitching a no-hitter consist of having control the whole game, a great defense making plays and of course a lot of luck.
