The N800 Internet Tablet is a wireless Internet device designed and manufactured by Nokia. The electronic gadget is considered a highly efficient device that enables users to browse the Internet and communicate using Wi-Fi networks. The N800 is also compatible with a mobile phone utilizing Bluetooth technology. The N800 was the successor to Nokia's previous model, the 770. The device includes FM and Internet radio capabilities, an RSS news reader, an image viewer, and a media player for audio and video files.
The Facts
The N800 is sold for around $400 and wasn't designed with the intention of it being a replacement for a PDA, smart phone or laptop. According to Bonnie Cha, an editor at Cnet.com, Nokia's N800 is best used for wireless Web browsing because it has a travel-friendly design and excellent browser. Many users find the N800 a nice alternative to their laptop or cell-phone browser when all they want to do is check e-mail or catch up on news.
Features
The Nokia N800 Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities and also is equipped with a built-in Webcam. The device also features a sleek design, large, clear screen, and an improved performance. Additionally, it comes equipped with VoIP support, instant messaging, and dual expansion slots. One of the most appealing feature of the N800 is the on-the-go Web access and though it's true you can do the same with a smart phone, PDA, or laptop; the N800 offers users a more portable solution for web browsing than a laptop and increased features over a PDA or smart phone device.
Benefits
The Nokia N800 allows fast connection to the Internet via WiFi access. The built-in webcam allows you to make video calls by pressing the circular section located on the device's upper edge. The Webcam pops out and rotates 180 degrees to capture different views.
Potential
There is no word on whether or not Nokia intends on updating this device. If the company does decide to, there is room for growth because the gadget has a lot of potential. New technology in the portable electronics marketplace is constantly changing and being updated, so there's always room for improvements in newer models. Perhaps in future models the video playback will be superior and there will be PC synchronization. The N800's successor also has potential for more connectivity options, as the N800 relies solely on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Accessories
Nokia offers useful accessories for its N800. There is a navigation kit for the internet tablet, along with a wireless GPS module and a Nokia 2GB miniSD card. The navigation kit gives turn-by-turn voice directions and includes maps of North America, along with a comprehensive points-of-interest database.
