Nokia's New Trifecta: This Trio of Smartphones is Set to Rock the Market

Brian Jones
On August 26, 2008 Nokia has announced a trifecta in the world of cell phones. Every major player in the cell phone industry has, since its inception, been trying to top or at the least compete with Apple's iPhone. Nokia very well may be on track to provide that competition with the release of the N96. The other two releases, while only slightly more in line with your standard cell phones are all nothing to laugh at. The N85 and N79 are both expected to pull in the numbers when they are released in the U.S. in the fall of 2008.

The Nokia N96 was first announced at GSMA 2008 and it provides so many features it will make your head spin. It has a huge internal drive at 16GB as well as a microSD expansion slot. The 5 megapixel camera is said to take some of the best pictures of any cell phone and video is outstanding at 30 frames/second supported by dual LED flash. To provide ease of use for the MP3 player and FM radio with RDS it has standard 3.5mm headphone jack. It has a dual sliding design and is a sleeker look than the N95, the previous generation of this phone. It has integrated Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS features as well. It has dual-band HSDPA for worldwide coverage and 2.8" QVGA display with a 240 x 320 resolution and don't forget the kickstand that keeps it upright for hands-free viewing. The N96 is expected to sell in the range of $750-$800. It is already being hyped as "the sexiest and most powerful phone ever."

The Nokia N85 has a finish that is sleek and stylish as well. It provides a 2.6-inch OLED display that is top of the line in technology. It is being called the N96 lite but the OLED makes it especially great for gaming. It includes 10 free N-Gage games with a voucher to buy another for free. It also has the 5.0 megapixel camera and integrated GPS with 3 free months of turn-by-turn guidance. The phone comes with an 8GM microSD card for storage and plays back music with Hi-Fi quality. RDS radioi and internet radio is available via the Wi-Fi. The N85 also includes the 3.5mm headphone jack and USB cable for quick PC connectivity. It will sell for $660.

The N79 has more of a standard design but is packaged with 3 differed covers-red, brown, and white which, through electronic sensor, also changes the theme on the home screen. While it touts many of the same multimedia features of the N96 and N85, it only has a 50MB memory. It will sell in the range of $500-$550.

If you love Nokia, or even if you don't, I would hold out until these babies are available before making a new cell phone purchase. These are sure to be some of the hottest smartphones on the market.
