Nominees for 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards: 2011
Telecast on CBS Live from Las Vegas Hilton on Sunday June 19, 2011
With the continual specter of cancellation looming over the remaining four daytime soap operas, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, today announced nominees for the 38th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
Consistent with the decline in the number of Daytime soap operas, and explosive growth of lifestyle and talk shows, the daytime drama categories make up a smaller section of the overall awards. In a macabre recognition of a now defunct daytime drama, this year's nominations still includes nominees for As the World Turns, which left out screens in September of 2010.
The awards show will for the second year running be telecast live on CBS from the Las Vegas Hilton on June 19, 2011. This year's ceremony will be hosted by Wayne Brady.
General Hospital with 21 nominations edged out Young and the Restless (20 nominations) for the top count in nominations. Ironically, recently cancelled ABC soaps All My Children and One Life to Live garnered at total of 13 and 12 nominations respectively, leaving Days of our Lives to finish bottom for currently airing soap operas with a mere 5 nominations only just managing to stay ahead of As The World Turns by 1 nomination.
