Non-Nude Glamour: Paysites Vs Print

Cynthia Leigh
Glamour photography is photography taken to ephasize the subject (as opposed to fashion photography where the clothing is the main focus). Existing since the 1800's, but not becomig nationally recognized (or legalized) until 1953 when Playboy popularized it. Since then numerous advertisers and men's magazines have used glamour photography to sell subscriptions and products. With the invention of the internet, pornography became one of the first items to be freely trade among users, and not far behind it, glamour photography. Yet just as adult sites have come to dominate the web, non-nude glamour sites have arisen to take their place along side them giving their print-base kin a run for their money.

It's common knowledge that print is a dying medium. As e-books and e-zines take over the internet, and most major newspapers provide their content via their website, the number magazines, books, and newspapers in circulation are slowly diminishing. The adult and glamour industry are no exception. For every adult or glamour-based print item available there's atleast ten more on the same subject available on the net. The power of the internet is so strong with the adult/glamour consumer, that many print sites now have websites offering stand alone content just to compete.

The early 1990's saw the rise of paysites on the net; with adult sites intially holding reign. Now the sales trend has steadly moved away from x-rated content with non-nude glamour sites taking hold in the industry. This can partially be attributed to popular magazines like "Maxim" promoting a glamour format similar to men's magazines of the early 1920's to the 40's. A smart move since adult material is difficult to market to newstands, but non-nude material can be sold to stores of any standing. The same can be said about non-nude sites. Many adult sites in the US pay to be part of "cyber watch" sites that through age verification limit children from attaining access. Non-nude sites aren't mandiated to follow these rules and merely have to keep track of their accounting for taxes, and record and document content providers ages for legal purposes. Ultimately the industries move to non-nude glamour sites grants them access to a wider market making it easier to generate sales.

Internet sales have been on a steady incline since 2000, and in the US alone there are literally millions of internet subscribers. Due to the internet's popularity, print has become incapable of keeping up with the demands of the buyer, and with so many websites offering updates on a daily basis, non-nude paysite sales can only be poised to rise. Leaving their ink and paper based generators to be recycled.
