Cherry Coke
A Cherry Coke at the bar is not like the everyday Cherry Coke you buy at the convenience store. A Cherry Coke at the bar is regular Coca-Cola mixed with grenadine, which is sweet, strong, cherry syrup. It tastes like a treat and has absolutely no alcohol content.
Cola with lemon or lime
My grandfather used to swear by Coca-Cola with a slice of lime, and I think he must have been ahead of his time. Both Pepsi and Coke have come out with lemon and lime flavored cola, but you can still order it at the bar the old-fashioned way.
Soda or tonic water with fruit
Many people who abstain from drinking alcohol at the bar order soda water or tonic water, but did you know you can ask for it with any fruit the bar has on hand? I recommend tonic water with lemon and lime, but you can also get orange slices or maraschino cherries.
Ginger Ale
I have a friend who always orders ginger ale at the bar for two reasons. First, she really likes ginger ale. Second, she says it looks just like a gin and tonic, so no one knows she isn't drinking. If you want to order non-alcoholic drinks at the bar without letting others know you aren't drinking, ginger ale might be a good option for you. This works well if you are having after work drinks with the boss or co-workers and feel a bit of social pressure.
Juice
Bars always have orange and cranberry juice for making cocktails, and you can usually get pineapple juice as well. Ask the bartender what's available if you want something different.
Virgin Daiquiris and Pina Colodas
If the bar serves regular daiquiris and pina colodas, you can order them "virgin." Essentially, you get the mix but not the alcohol. It's a nice way to have a tropical vacation drink without all the booze that goes with it.
Lemonade or iced tea
Summer is the perfect time of year to kick back with a non-alcoholic lemonade or iced tea. Just because you're at the bar doesn't mean you can't enjoy a little seasonal refreshment.
Bartender's Suggestion
If you want to order a non-alcoholic drink at the bar but aren't sure what to get, ask the bartender to make you something good. Most bartenders take pride in their mixing abilities and are more than happy to create something to suit your tastes.
